State Softball/Baseball Players of Week
It gets tricky in these last weeks of the school year as we avoid choosing anyone who might be playing his/her final game on the day they are honored. We still can find very strong candidates with that restriction and this week have found them in San Diego and Sherman Oaks for Southern California plus […]
NEW State Softball TOP 25 Rankings
Del Oro of Loomis is still No. 1 and Norco has gone up from No. 3 to No. 2, but the biggest changes this week are from No. 3 on down the pecking order. Several upsets in the CIF Southern Section D1 playoffs plus previous No. 4 St. Francis taking a loss in the CIF...
State Stat Stars & Record Updates
This edition of this feature includes salutes to Bullard of Fresno baseball coach Tom Donald (600th win) and Colton softball coach Mike Southworth (500th win). We also have single season and career home run updates for softball sluggers Alyssa Torres, Delaney Aumua and Mia Gomez (Torres hit 22nd homer of year on Thursday). Also for...
State Baseball/Softball Players of Week
For this week’s five honorees we didn’t have any entries for the Cal-Hi Sports Online Record Book to track, which is one of the goals of this feature, but the other goal of finding diamonds in the rough for statewide honors who might only get local recognition was more than satisfied. Five instead of four […]
NEW State Softball TOP 25 Rankings
The super-loaded CIF Southern Section D1 playoffs start on Thursday with very intriguing matchups in the very first round. Winning the Michelle Carew Classic didn’t help Rosary of Fullerton to get a high seed, but we do not match computer rankings based section seedings with our own rankings. Teams that are moving up in our...
State Softball/Baseball Players of Week
Have we ever had one week in the history of this feature (more than 10 years on this site) in which two of our honorees both threw back-to-back no-hitters? We’re not sure. All four of this week’s featured players did some amazing things and we’re pleased to bring their stories to a bigger audience. They […]
NEW State Softball TOP 25 Rankings
We were going to skip one week of softball rankings due a spring football event we covered on Sunday plus we need to finish up the girls basketball all-state teams. We had to do an update, however, since there is a new No. 1 team plus other changes further down due to wild-and-wacky league races...
State Stat Stars & Record Updates
There is one big performance from this week we’re going to save for the next players of the week, but we still have a bunch of great ones to get out there. We start in softball with a player who broke a Monterey County strikeout record held by USA Softball legend Monica Abbott and we...
NEW State Softball TOP 25 Rankings
Tournament wins catapult Tracy from No. 16 to No. 10 and Oaks Christian from on the bubble to No. 18 in this week’s new state rankings. Del Oro also moves up to third after big win vs previous No. 3 Oak Ridge and now has an argument to be No. 1. Pacifica of Garden Grove...
State Baseball/Softball Players of Week
The two goals of this weekly feature are to track potential entries in the Cal-Hi Sports Online Record Book and to uncover and identify some hidden talent and diamonds in the rough for statewide recognition that might only get local kudos. While we didn’t have any performances that made the record book, we had two […]
