NEW State Softball TOP 25 Rankings
There was a big Monday game this week that could have caused changes near the top, but No. 4 Del Oro got past Destiny Christian, 3-1, which also helped set up a showdown on Wednesday vs No. 3 Oak Ridge. Norco and Rosary continue at the top two spots. This week’s only newcomer is St....
State Softball/Baseball Players of Week
One of the four honorees this week had a performance nominated by our own Harold Abend during the middle of a move from Petaluma to Orange County. Another is a younger sister of the quarterback from last season’s state/national championship football team. The four are from Petaluma and San Bruno in Northern California and Rancho […]
State Stat Stars & Record Updates
We begin this week with a salute to two coaches (one baseball, one softball) who both earned their 600th win last week. Baseball’s best also includes an update on state home run season lead after Oaks Christian’s Quentin Young hit a pair of them on Wednesday, a catcher with five RBI at Oracle Park and...
NEW State Softball TOP 25 Rankings
The result from last week that caused the most changes to this week’s rankings was Mater Dei of Santa Ana getting past previous No. 3 Orange Lutheran in the Trinity League. The Monarchs also had a big win vs Santa Margarita and are one of six newcomers this week. The highest ranked newcomer, however, is...
State Baseball/Softball Players of Week
State record implications are there for two of the four we’re honoring this week, but considering the competition involved it was one of the other honorees who perhaps made the biggest impact. Our four winners are from Moreno Valley and Lakewood in Southern California and then it’s Livingston and Loomis for Northern California. We hope […]
Return To Glory At Livermore Stampede
There was only a mini-series of games last year at the Livermore Stampede softball tourney, one of the most prestigious in the state, due to rainy weather. This year, the team that won it all two years ago under normal conditions, St. Francis of Mountain View, won it again on Saturday with a 6-0 triumph […]
State Stat Stars & Record Updates
UCLA-bound Jazmine Leyva of South El Monte is closing in on state record for career doubles, but will she get enough pitches to hit? We also have softball players knocking in 12 runs in one game, going 6-for-7 with seven RBI and another with three homers. For baseball, Orland’s Luke Schager breaks a 76-year-old school...
NEW State Softball TOP 25 Rankings
Monday games when one is looking to do state rankings in two sports (baseball too) at the same time can be excruciating. It happened this week in softball when a Oak Ridge of El Dorado Hills team that was pegged to take over as the No. 1 team in these rankings was upset in a...
State Softball/Baseball Players of Week
It’s never easy to come up with these four honorees each week and this week we even waited for Monday afternoon games to be played before finalizing two of the winning names. As usual, most of those who gained the final nod have accomplishments both with bat in hand or with ball leaving the hand […]
Crazy Carew as Rosary rises to crown
It was two weeks ago when the last State TOP 25 rankings for softball had been compiled, but unranked Rosary of Fullerton showed it has the makings of another top-level squad in the CIF Southern Section with a title game win in the Michelle Carew Classic on Saturday night vs state No. 4 Orange Lutheran. […]
