We have completed the task of updating all-time state football records for most yards rushing single-season and career. The big news is adding San Bernardino Aquinas’ standout Branden Rankins to No. 2 for a career. He is one of only four in state history to have gone past 8,000 yards but still needed 255 more […]
It was a pair of performances worth gold as Lynwood’s Carl Lewis rampaged for 110 points and continued to make himself more well known to college recruiters. We also have a girls honoree from Bakersfield with a 50-point game plus additional nods going to players from Lompoc and Hughson.
This feature will take a break next week for the holidays, but before that happens we have to tell you about four more amazing players. One of them had back-to-back 50-point games last week. Another is an all-state freshman from last season, another is the daughter of a former NBA player while another had a […]
It’s a week where we’ve gone with dual-threat quarterbacks for each of our offensive honorees as Robby Rowell of Lafayette Acalanes and Nick Nash of Irvine Woodbridge led teams to significant wins. Our other choices have gone to Rancho Cordova, San Mateo, San Diego and Torrance.
When the numbers were crunched, it turns out that both of our offensive players of the week were listed with 412 yards of passing in leading their teams to wins. We also have a player with a 99-yard TD run to go with a 78-yard punt return TD and a player who has played eight […]
It’s not likely that all three state career receiving records for yards, receptions and TD catches will all get broken by the end of the current season, but the threesome of Emoryie Edwards of Tulare, Marquise Spiker of Murrieta Valley and Mozes Mooney of La Bishop’s will all wind up high in all three categories. […]
Starting this weekend just about every football team in the state will be playing league games for the next few weeks. It’s a good time therefore to rank the state’s top 10 best leagues (No. 1 is obvious) and go over some of the state’s longest current league winning streaks. Check this week’s column for...
Recently choosing players of the week who both have brothers at Washington State got us inspired to take a look at the best set of quarterback brothers in state history. For high school stats, you can’t beat the Clausens (Jimmy, Casey & Rick). But for overall football accomplishments, it may be hard to beat the...
From controversial Joe Mixon of the Cincinnati Bengals to new kickers Aldrick Rosas and Rigoberto Sanchez of the New York Giants and Indianapolis Colts, congrats to all of those NFL rookies from California high schools making their debuts this weekend. This column this week also includes updated state record lists for most receiving yards (single...
Two who’ve put their names into the state record book — Jonathan Martin of Culver City (total offense single game) and Keshon Butler of Tulare Western (most receiving yds single game) — lead this week’s SoCal/NorCal Player of the Week picks. Other honorees are from Yucaipa, San Juan Capistrano, Atherton and Lake of the Pines. […]
