At some point this season, just like we did for the record-breaking senior season of former Folsom QB Jake Browning, we knew we were going to write up Kaiden Bennett as one of our players of the week. This became that week. Our other honorees for this week are from San Jose, Bakersfield, Valencia, Yorba […]
In a wild-and-wacky week in which five different quarterbacks in the state (three from the same CIF section) threw for eight TDs in one game, we go with one of them as the SoCal Offensive POW. We also have a highly recruited defensive end who recovered two fumbles for touchdowns and a kicker with a […]
Family ties are a big angle for this week’s honorees with one of them being the grandson of the head coach and another who’s got a twin brother who also is a standout on the same team. The six recipients this week are from Elk Grove, Tulare, Atherton, San Marino, Mission Viejo and Goleta.
The three interception returns for TDs by Long Beach Poly’s Kejuan Markham stand out, but so do the reasons for the five others we’ve selected for this weekly honor. We have another DB with four interceptions in one game (with one TD), a running back with 410 yards and four TDs, a quarterback with 458 […]
Our first three NorCal honorees of the 2018 football season wound up being from three different CIF sections. For Southern California, we have two from the CIF Southern Section and one from San Diego. The communities they represent are Moraga, Roseville, Tulare, Apple Valley, Carlsbad and Anaheim.
Because of competitive equity factors and the addition of schools from Napa County, it was more complicated choosing players from this region of the state, which is part of the CIF North Coast Section. Still, Marin Catholic (Kentfield) once again leads the way with seven first team selections. The Wildcats are followed by Rancho Cotate...
Not surprisingly, a large number of players on both the first and second teams are from the three teams that all won CIF state bowl game titles last season plus additional standouts from the West Catholic Athletic League. Still, there were some fresh new faces last season and a couple of them are not from...
You may not believe everything that Amador Valley of Pleasanton’s Teresa Mayes-Borchard has gone through over the last few months and years, but in the end her program won its third CIF North Coast Section Division I title in the last five years and her team ended as the No. 1 ranked team for Northern […]
For the final weekly player of the week honors of 2017-18, all four obviously had to have led their teams to CIF section titles last weekend. They all did it in different ways for CIF North Coast Section Division I, CIF Southern Section Division II, NCS D4 and Southern D4.
Three of our honorees this week are done after sparking their teams to section titles, including two of them who will be in the Pac-12 Conference next year. We couldn’t pick someone from SoCal baseball who is done for the year, but did go with a top pitcher from the CIF L.A. City Section who […]
