This is the final one of these preseason teams in our annual series. It’s still preseason for a good many teams in the state since their seasons haven’t begun. Defending Open Division champion Archbishop Riordan has five players on our preseason All-CCS first team. That is not as many, though as last year’s D1 winners from Serra of San Mateo, which has seven. West Catholic Athletic League rival St. Francis also has several preseason first team players plus we found a way sneak on top returnees from schools like Los Gatos, Palma, Soquel and more.
Note: These preseason all-section teams are done in the same 30-player format as the annual Cal-Hi Sports All-State Football Teams. That means it’s not a one through 30 player ranking. There has to be certain numbers of players at each position — 11 on offense with kicker, 11 on defense with punter plus six multi-purpose. They are based on a combination of what the players did last season and college recruiting. Transfers may not be included if not reported yet, haven’t played for a new school yet, or info on a transfer from previous school isn’t available.
