For the 21st year of doing this feature, our girls hoops lead analyst provides the names of more than 100 California high school girls basketball players who have received a dot system ranking of 7.0 or higher, led by returning Ms. Basketball State Player of the Year Kaleena Smith with a 9.6. Her former teammate, Tati Griffin, now at Mater Dei, is right behind at 9.5. All have been seen over the past two months with others not seen yet still to be added. We also have a list of the most impactful transfers that have come in during the past months.

With most of the top players and club teams out of state during the July NCAA Viewing Period, just like it has been the last three to four years, the mission and focus for the Girls of Summer Caravan this year was once again to find new young talent that is breaking onto the scene and some diamonds in the rough.
Also, with the advent of the Girls California Live NCAA Scholastic Viewing Event in July, we did get a chance to see some of the top teams, but once again with competition from the Section VII event in Arizona, which many of California’s top teams decided to attend instead.
In 2005, when Cal-Hi Sports was part of Student Sports, as the lead girls basketball analyst for Cal-Hi Sports back then just like today, we were asked to evaluate the players invited to the Nike Elite Skills Academy for the top incoming seniors and juniors in the nation.
The bottom line is a lot has changed since we began the Girls of Summer in 2005 with its beginnings 21 years ago with that trip to Oregon. However, with the invite to the Nike Elite Skills Academy a brainchild was born and the Girls of Summer player rankings became a reality.
