We presented Blasts From The Past every week in the fall for football, and will now look at doing the same for boys and girls basketball when those teams should be playing this winter. These are highlights from around the state from 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 years ago. From 15 […]
Once again, there is an abundance of California high school players getting ready for this year’s Major League Baseball Draft. There likely isn’t going to be a No. 1 choice like there was for 2014, 2015 and 2017, but there could once again be three or four gone in the first round. We go over...
In addition to overall No. 1 and Division I No. 1 De La Salle of Concord, others that can say they are mythical state champions for 2018 are Santa Margarita of Rancho SM (Division II), Los Banos (D3), Winters (D4) and Rio Hondo Prep of Arcadia (D5).
We now have three No. 1 teams from the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section as Argonaut of Jackson has now moved on top of Division 4. The two teams previously that were in catbird spots, Los Banos (D3) and Mariposa County (D5), have continued to win in section playoffs. None of the three has won anything yet...
Welcome to this initial step toward selection of the 38th annual Cal-Hi Sports All-State Baseball Teams. Current MLB stars like Christian Yelich, Aaron Judge, Trevor Bauer, Brandon Crawford, Joc Pederson and C.C. Sabathia were all on these teams in the past. These nominees are grouped according to each CIF section in the state. It’s not […]
The only new No. 1 team from these rankings that were done last week for the first time is the same one for the overall State Top 25 as De La Salle of Concord has replaced Orange Lutheran. Still No. 1 entering this weekend’s CIF Southern Section championships are Santa Margarita (D2), Los Banos (D3),...
As the CIF Southern Section is about to slice up its playoff brackets in baseball to just four left in each one after Friday’s quarterfinals, some other section playoffs around the state (CCS, NCS, Sac-Joaquin) are just getting around to releasing their brackets. We wish we had more time to do more weeks of these […]
It isn’t always the amazing stats we’re looking for each week when deciding these honors. It could be less amazing stats, but doing it against elite competition. That’s clearly the case for our NorCal baseball and SoCal softball honorees this week. Those two are part of a group from the communities of Los Gatos, Watsonville, […]
We can’t do divisional state basketball rankings anymore during the regular season because there’s no way to know (thanks to competitive equity seeding) which divisions to place any of these teams. Now that brackets are out, though, we can apply our own rankings system to the teams in both the NorCal and SoCal playoffs and […]
