All-State Football: First Team

The 36th annual Cal-Hi Sports All-State Football Teams are headlined by these 30 players, chosen regardless of school size or year in school. Two juniors from CIF Open Division champion De La Salle have made the cut along with two defenders each from Long Beach Poly and Serra of Gardena.

State Passing Records Updated

As a celebration of this week’s CIF state bowl games and one quarterback in particular concluding one of the greatest careers in state history, we have posted updated single-season totals for passing yards and TD passes.

State Stat Stars of the Week

Presented by ATHLETETRAX, several of this week’s best are from unbeaten teams, including Crescenta Valley’s Brian Gadsby, Piedmont’s Gabe Watson and Lemoore’s Cort Groathouse. We also tip our hat to new Cal-Hi Sports career receptions and receiving yards record holder Trent Irwin.

SoCal/NorCal Players of the Week

Only one is named from each region for offense, defense and special teams and we’re going to do our best to spread it around as much as possible. This week’s honors go to Newhall, San Clemente, Paso Robles, Oakland, Sutter and Sacramento.

Lakewood has another in World Series

For the second straight year, an alum from the stellar baseball program run for so many years by legendary head coach Spud O’Neill has a player in the World Series. California also once again tops the nation and world for having more World Series players than any other state or nation.
