NEW Softball State Top 20
Loss by previous No. 2 Gahr not only screws up the CIF Southern Section Division I seedings, but also drops down the Gladiators in this week’s State Top 20. The other big move was to elevate Foothill of Pleasanton back up to No. 11 after it beat previous No. 11 Amador Valley behind ace pitcher...
NEW Baseball State Top 20
Valley Christian back up to No. 3 but that’s also the team’s seeding in the goofed up, nonsensical world of the CIF Central Coast Section Open Division playoff pairings. Others coming up include La Mirada (now in the top five), Palm Desert (now in the top 10) and El Toro (back in at No. 14...
NEW Softball State Top 20
There’s some upheaval in Orange County with Huntington Beach breaking through with a big win last week over previous No. 2 Los Alamitos plus Mater Dei getting a surprisingly lopsided 11-1 romp on Monday over previous No. 4 Orange Lutheran. The results cause some changes and we’re pretty sure we know which school’s fans aren’t...
NEW Baseball State Top 20
Bizarro world situations continue to emerge for this year’s rankings as Bellarmine of San Jose (which has six league losses) wins the Boras Classic state championship while a San Mateo Serra team that is the round-robin co-champion of that same league drops a pair of non-league games. It’s still calm at the top, however, as...
NEW Softball State Top 20
The first 11 teams in these rankings stay put after all had strong weeks, but after that we have a lot of movement, including unbeaten Oakdale going from No. 18 to No. 13. Oaks Christian also jumps from No. 19 to No. 14. For the newcomers this week, we have three and they all went...
NEW Baseball State Top 20
There’s a new No. 1 team in California baseball for the third straight week as Harvard-Westlake’s dominance of the tough Mission League pulls it in front of previous No. 1 Huntington Beach, which lost a game last week to Fountain Valley. There are also four new teams ranked this week, including defending CIF Southern Section...
NEW Baseball State Top 20
Huntington Beach wins 21st game in last 22 outings and goes up to No. 1 in the state following loss by previous No. 1 Valley Christian of San Jose. The Warriors, however, only drop one spot due to other teams losing and their own 6-3 win on Saturday against state-ranked Archbishop Mitty. This week’s rankings...
NEW Softball State Top 20
We didn’t think there would be much movement in this week’s rankings, but then a funny thing happened to Mater Dei of Santa Ana heading into its showdown on Friday in the Trinity League with No. 2 Orange Lutheran. The Monarchs lost. They were No. 8 and had to give up some spots after that...
NEW Baseball State Top 20
A different team from the West Catholic Athletic League now joins No. 1 Valley Christian of San Jose in the top five. We also have four newcomers led by new No. 13 De La Salle of Concord, which beat previous No. 3 Foothill of Pleasanton last Friday. Also going in this week are Rancho Bernardo...
