FINAL Softball State Top 40
As is our custom, it takes us awhile to get out final state rankings because we do the all-state nominations first. But we try to make up for it by doing expanded lists in all divisions. The first 10 showed up on our ticker last week, but here’s the next 30 all placed in order...
Valley Christian Baseball Team of Year
It’s a little anti-climactic when the final weekend of the season doesn’t determine the state’s No. 1 ranking and State Team of the Year selection. But for baseball in 2018 that choice already was deservedly wrapped up one weekend earlier. Valley Christian of San Jose earns its first State TOY pick in any sport and […]
San Marcos State Team of Year
For only the third time since 1980 and only the fourth time ever, a CIF San Diego Section team lands first in California softball. It essentially took two separate San Diego schools to make that happen, but despite Norco winning its final two CIF Southern Section Division I games by lopsided margins it has to […]
A Day of NCS Baseball, Softball
It ended up not being quite so simple as watching the CIF North Coast Section Division I baseball and softball championship games on the same day, but it was simple in how both De La Salle of Concord and Amador Valley of Pleasanton earned titles. Both were shutouts and both saw seniors hit impressive home […]
NEW Softball State Top 20
While there could be a team from the CIF Southern Section with a solid No. 1 argument next week, this week it has to be San Marcos going up to the top of the state after its showdown win over previous No. 1 Cathedral Catholic of San Diego last Saturday. Read on to see why...
NEW Baseball State Top 20
Higher seeded teams fall by the wayside in droves as this year’s section playoffs reach the later rounds or come to an end. As you’d expect, this week’s rankings were difficult and included a myriad of moves. We have a new No. 1 (Valley Christian of San Jose), seven newcomers in all and just about...
Valley Christian Caps It Off
The Warriors moved into the catbird’s seat to get their chance to be final state No. 1 in baseball due to a result from San Diego on Wednesday and they have now sealed the deal. Their heart-pounding triumph in the bottom of the seventh inning over Los Gatos in Friday’s CIF Central Coast Section Open […]
NEW Softball State Top 20
It’s wacko Tuesday in the CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs since two teams that have been near the very top of the state and national rankings all season — Los Alamitos and Orange Lutheran — both were eliminated in upsets. Nothing is that stunning in that bracket, but of course causes a lot of...
First Look: State Softball Div. Ranks
Apologies for not getting these out earlier, but the season is still going and we have put teams in position to claim mythical state championships in addition to winning section titles. These five-division state rankings in softball also have a long tradition that dates back more than 30 years. Some tough decisions had to be […]
