There is only one newcomer to the Top 30 this week and that is a St. Joseph of Lakewood team that has high marks in the CIF Southern Section point system-based rankings. The biggest news also came from the CIFSS where the word is that there could be a ‘flex’ in CIF state berths which could mean that conceivably 10 or as many as 16 teams could qualify for the Open Division, and then more than eight like in year’s past would be eligible to advance to the regional playoffs. If that is the case, then some of the lower divisions of the CIFSS playoffs would only advance finalists into the regionals.
