All-State FB Nominees (Part 2)

Players who are selected to this year’s all-state teams will be able to get patches commemorating the achievement for the first time. When the first teams are announced in January, look for details. Photo: Mark Tennis.

The selection process for the 39th annual Cal-Hi Sports All-State Football Teams continues with the second set of all-state nominees. This first group of players who were placed on our board are from the CIF Central Coast Section, CIF North Coast Section, CIF Northern Section, CIF Sac-Joaquin Section plus San Francisco & Oakland. This second group is from the Central Section, L.A City and San Diego sections. Don’t get mad if a player isn’t listed. It’s our goal not to miss anyone at the end, a second set of nominees will be posted (Gold Club) and we welcome additional nominees from parents, coaches and fans.

Note: Cal-Hi Sports All-State Football content that will be for Gold Club members include second, final list of nominees plus second team, third team overall and All-State Underclass. The free posts will be first team overall and first team small schools and medium schools. This post represents the first step toward selection of the annual Cal-Hi Sports All-State Football Teams and it is for us to present lists of nominees that have been put up on our virtual board.

This second list is for the CIF Central Section plus San Diego and L.A. City. The final one will cover the massive CIF Southern Section.

By no means are these meant to be all-inclusive lists of every possible all-state player in California and we will miss listing some top juniors and sophomores on purpose because this isn’t a recruiting list. We encourage and welcome input from all users of our site and will be releasing a second, even more complete, updated list of nominees prior to when the teams are actually chosen and released.

Please send any nomination with each athlete’s height, weight, position, year in school, significant statistics. Comparing a player not on the board yet to one who already is also can be very important toward eventual selection. Limit each nomination to one page please. Send to: markjtennis@gmail.com or call (209) 608-1317. Text messages to that number are okay as well.

The format we will continue to use is to honor a 30-player overall all-state first team with 30 more on second team. Each first team player is written up. There also are 30 for medium schools and 30 for small schools and yes we are struggling with what’s medium and what’s small with competitive equity. All that is certain is that players from large, public high schools will not be considered “small school.”

Don’t assume we know all there is to know about a player on the list, either. Send us info to make sure all pertinent information is turned in and placed into our files.

Helix QB Carson Baker threw for 322 yards in CIF D1-AA state final. At the time, many in the Sacramento area thought he would be playing in college at nearby UC Davis. The hometown San Diego State Aztecs, however, made a late push for Baker and he understandably switched from his earlier commitment. Photo: Willie Eashman.

*We’re honored to included Burton on this list. He recently died in a car accident on the Monday night of CIF state championship week. This mention is not because of that tragedy, however. Burton already was named first team All-CIF San Diego Section by a media panel based on the season he had for the Eagles.
