CIF Central Sec: Tulare trio rolls on

Here’s some record updates and highlights of top players & teams from the recent week as reported to us from CIF Central Section historian Bob Barnett of Fresno. Bob has done phenomenal work on behalf of CIF Central Section schools, athletes and coaches for more than 40 years.


A terrific trio led Tulare past Monache of Porterville 69-10 as junior quarterback Nathan Lamb of Tulare had two career highs of 403 yards, the sixth best in school history and a personal best of six touchdowns on 21 of 26 passes and no interceptions. Also coming up for the unbeaten Tribe were Emoryie Edwards, who had 11 receptions for 265 yards, which is the third best in school history and three touchdowns, and senior Kazmeir Allen with four touchdowns. Allen now has 30 TDs for the season and 79 for his career.

Senior running back Jeremiah Huerta of Orosi became the fifth player in Central Section history score eight touchdowns in one game. He had runs of 4, 26, 20, 38, 73, 7, 15 & 67 yards and rushed for a school record of 384 yards in a 58-28 win over Farmersville.

Senior Sean Chambers of Kerman rushed for a game high of 207 yards on eight carries and scored two touchdowns and he also passed for one touchdown in a 35-20 win over Chowchilla.

David Alcanter of unbeaten Tulare Western scored a career high of five touchdowns on 12 carries and had 189 yards in a 48-0 win over Delanot. Teammate Tairyn Johnson also had a fine game game on 18 carries for 172 yards. Tulare Western is unbeaten as well and it could be a matchup of unbeatens when Tulare Western and Tulare meet in their rivalry game to end the regular season.

Junior quarterback Trent Tompkins led Central over Buchanan 28-27 with 20 seconds remaining in the game when he threw a 23-yard touchdown to receiver Jacob Torrez to clinch the win. Tompkins was 26 of 45 for 339 yards and three touchdowns and also rushed for 65 yards for the game. He also had three interceptions, but his 45 attempts is a new school record. Trevor Ervin of Buchanan rushed for 202 yards on 14 carries and scored four touchdowns.

Jasper Berumen from Granite Hills of Porterville rushed for a game high of 203 yards on 23 carries and scored two touchdowns in a 35-0 win over Corcoran.

Quarterback Jeshua Gutierrez of Firebaugh had a stellar night by passing for 228 yards on 8 of 12 with four touchdowns in 56-3 win over Tranquillity. Gutierrez also had 66 yards rushing for one touchdown. Tylor Palmer had six receptions for 136 yards and three touchdowns.
