Going by consensus of Scout, Rivals, ESPN and 24/7, it’s a tie between Antioch’s Najee Harris and Redlands East Valley’s Jaelen Phillips as to which would be the state’s top college prospect as freshmen heading into the 2017 season. We’ll break the tie since Najee was Mr. Football State Player of the Year as a junior. As the wrap-up of the 2016-17 school year is continuing with another eye looking forward to 2017-18, one part of the wrap-up is to take a final look at this year’s seniors and recent high school graduates who will be playing in major college football games in just a couple of months.
We do this by going through all of the various player rankings from major services like ESPN, Rivals, Scout and 24/7 and then compiling a consensus to come up with a top 100 for the state. We also add in our own player evaluations from games and events that we attended as well as the evaluations done to come up with the annual Cal-Hi Sports all-state teams.
