FB: Top 10 Rankings Update

Freedom of Oakley has done enough to jump up into the same No. 10 position that was occupied last week by Monte Vista of Danville. The Falcons (10-0) also are the No. 2 seed behind De La Salle in CIF North Coast Section Open Division.

(After games of Saturday, Nov. 5)
(Previous ranking in parentheses)

1. (1) Mater Dei (Santa Ana) 10-0
The Monarchs wrapped perfect run through Trinity League and No. 1 seed for CIFSS D1 playoffs by routing JSerra. They play Tesoro (Las Flores) in playoff opener.

2. (2) Centennial (Corona) 9-1
The CIFSS Division 1 No. 2 seed starts the postseason Friday vs. JSerra. The Huskies won the Pac-5 title the last two years and the Inland Division the two years before that.

3. (3) St. John Bosco (Bellflower) 8-2
Giving up 28 points in win vs. Orange Lutheran might be a bad sign, but won’t know probably until quarterfinal matchup in CIFSS D1 playoffs (likely against Serra of Gardena).

4. (4) Mission Viejo 10-0
The Diablos made it 38 wins in a row and are now just three behind their own Orange County record of 41 after 41-3 romp past San Clemente.

5. (5) Rancho Cucamonga 10-0
Nick Acosta threw for four TDs as Cougars beat Chino Hills to end regular season. They are No. 5 seed in CIFSS D1 bracket and figure to play No. 4 Mission Viejo in quarterfinals.

6. (6) Narbonne (Harbor City) 10-0
The only team the Gauchos probably have to worry too much about in L.A. City D1 bracket is Dorsey, which lost a close game to D2 unbeaten Hawkins.

7. (7) Cathedral Catholic (San Diego) 10-0
After 35-0 win over St. Augustine, the Dons routed Madison 31-7 and clearly are team to beat in SD Open Division.

8. (8) De La Salle (Concord) 9-1
No history for Monte Vista, just the same ‘ol Spartans in their 45-17 win last Friday. It’s not same ‘ol NCS walk in the park in front of them, however.

9. (9) Serra (Gardena) 7-3
Interesting matchup vs. Santa Margarita awaits Cavs in first round of CIFSS D1 playoffs. They’d probably get Bosco after that.

10. (13) Freedom (Oakley) 10-0
The win from two weeks ago over Pitt looks even better this week, but the Falcons will have to duplicate it in two weeks in NCS Open Division semifinals to have shot at playing De La Salle.
