One week after Davis had to jump from unranked to No. 7 after winning the NorCal portion of the Boras Classic, it’s Mira Costa’s turn to go from unranked to No. 5 after winning the SoCal portion of the same tournament. The Mustangs, however, still can’t be ranked higher than a team from their same league. Buchanan of Clovis also moves up to as the new No. 1, but will get a huge test this week from No. 4 Clovis.

Note: There are not going to be separate free and premium posts for new rankings this season in any sport. All new and final rankings will be for Gold Club members only. This also is a great time to sign up for our Gold Club to see all of our great content, including just published 20,000 word feature on the 50 greatest football teams in state history (basketball coming soon). 1. (2) BUCHANAN (CLOVIS) 16-0

With what is looming for the Bears in what will be their first time out as the No. 1 team in the state is one of the reasons they’re being given that slot this week. After posting wins last week of 3-2 over Clovis East and 12-3 over Clovis West, moving them up to No. 1 was the easy part. Previous No. 1 JSerra lost in the title game of the SoCal Boras Classic (its second loss of the season) and previous No. 3 Clovis also lost (its first loss of the season). The difference between the two, however, is that Clovis is playing Buchanan on Tuesday night of this week. It’s not going to be a No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup, but it’s close. The Bears also will face Clovis North (team that beat Clovis last week) in Tri-River Athletic League competition.
