State TOP 25 Weekend Scoreboard

It’s a lighter week of scores than usual with a lot of teams from six-team leagues, like the Trinity League in Southern California, on their bye weeks. Still, we had No. 6 Mission Viejo bounce back strong from a loss, No. 7 De La Salle and No. 9 Cathedral Catholic set up a big clash for next week, and a big upset involving a D1 state champ from last season. We also name two leading contenders to move up in upcoming state rankings. SATURDAY SCORES NOW ADDED.

Note: We will return to our State TOP 50 Football Rankings on October 5 after completing a family trip. We’ll have insights and breakdowns based on 47 years of going to Friday night games with an overview of the state’s top teams and what’s coming up that just can’t be matched. Each new set of rankings will be for Gold Club members only. The late Friday/Weekend Scoreboards will continue to be free posts and will provide snippets of info, comments and more. We will only be doing scoreboards this year on weeks in which we aren’t going to a game.

We hope you enjoy this free post on CalHiSports.com. To join our Gold Club to get all new state rankings, state record updates and all of the all-state team announcements, CLICK HERE.

Defeated No. 37 Chaparral (Temecula) 36-21. The Diablos were ahead 28-7 at halftime thanks to QB Luke Fahey with TD runs of 7 and 9 yds plus TD passes of 20 and 27 yds to Jack Junker.

7. De La Salle (Concord) 5-0
Defeated state No. 39 St. Mary’s (Stockton) 36-7. Spartan defense was stout turning back the Rams’ offense as their only score came on a defensive play. DLS defense has now not allowed a point in four of five games. Toughest test for that defense will be next Friday at home vs 5-0 and state No. 9 Cathedral Catholic.

8. Lincoln (San Diego) 5-1
Defeated No. 34 Grant of Sacramento 41-20 on Saturday. The Hornets (D1-AA state champs from last year) topped No. 34 Grant of Sacramento (D2-AA state champs from last year). For comparison, Grant lost 47-20 to No. 7 De La Salle last week.

9. Cathedral Catholic (San Diego) 5-0
Defeated No. 33 Granite Hills (El Cajon) 40-30. Head coach Sean Doyle’s team will now head up to the Bay Area for the second time this year (first time was 35-7 win vs St. Francis of Mountain View) next week to face No. 7 De La Salle.

16. Archbishop Riordan (San Francisco) 4-0
Defeated St. Francis (Mountain View) 47-28. The Lancers played Riordan tough in their WCAL opener and didn’t fall behind until there was 8:45 left on a 52-yard TD pass from Mike Mitchell Jr. to Judge Nash. The Crusaders poured it on from there.

31. Rocklin 3-2
LOST to Jesuit (Carmichael) 20-14. The Thunder didn’t lose that bad to Folsom (34-21) but this one is going to hurt.
