Yes, mighty Mater Dei, the two-time defending CIF Open Division state champs and already an almost unanimous No. 1 in national preseason rankings, is always in the spotlight the most for Orange County football. As our preseason tour of the state begins this week through the selection of preseason honors squads, however, Orange County also has a lot of preseason players to watch from the other four teams in the Trinity League (especially Santa Margarita). Plus, if there was a State Player of the Year for spring/summer football, it wouldn’t be someone from MD but a quarterback from Mission Viejo.
Note: These preseason all-section or all-area teams are done in the same 30-player format as the annual Cal-Hi Sports All-State Football Teams. They are based on a combination of what the players did last season and college recruiting. Transfers may not be included if not reported yet, haven’t played for a new school yet, or info on a transfer from previous school isn’t available. Not every all-section team will have writeups of every player. Some will have an intro, then lists.
