Our 10th stop in this statewide tour of leading players from top teams goes to the far north where the schools tend to be small and the rest of the state largely ignores. There are changes in the air with a new commissioner, schools competing in their final year in the section and a new media landscape, but on the field some of the usual title contenders will likely battle it out.
Note: These preseason all-section or all-area teams are done in the same 30-player format as the annual Cal-Hi Sports All-State Football Teams. They are based on a combination of what the players did last spring and college recruiting. Transfers may not be included if not reported yet, haven’t played for a new school yet, or info on a transfer from previous school isn’t available. Not every all-section team will have writeups of every player. Some will have an intro, then lists.

For the last several years before COVID-19 arrived, the preseason All-CIF Northern Section football team was compiled and written by T.J. Holmes, the editor of the Shasta County Sports website. Unfortunately for us but fortunately for him, he and family have moved to Medford, Ore., for a new job and the Shasta County Sports site, which also had coverage of the entire Northern Section at times, hasn’t had new content in months.
