Cathedral Catholic is the defending Open Division champion and probably should be regarded as the favorite to start 2019, but arch-rival St. Augustine actually has more players on this year’s preseason squad of honors candidates with four. Other schools with multiple players written up include Lincoln of San Diego and Mission Hills of San Marcos. We also have dozens of players listed as second teamers and we acknowledge that some of them just as easily could have been on first team. Balanced, great competition has been a staple of San Diego prep football in recent years and based on these players that’s what should be happening once again.

Note: These preseason all-section teams will be done in the same 30-player format as the annual Cal-Hi Sports All-State Football Teams. They are based on a combination of what the players did last season and college recruiting. Transfers may not be included if not reported yet or info on a transfer from previous school isn’t available. Not every all-section team will have writeups of every player. Some will have an intro, then lists.
