Sac-Joaquin Top 5: Top 5 RB totals

We are happy to have been involved for the sixth straight year with the CalHiSports.com web site and Cal-Hi Sports as part of the weekly Final Quarter high school football show on Friday nights on the FOX 40 station in Sacramento.

After a crazy week in which the show had to be moved to Monday night because of the incredibly long World Series game on Oct. 26, last Friday’s show revealed our list for the Top 5 regular season rushing leaders in CIF Sac-Joaquin Section history. Here is what that countdown revealed:

1. John Bordenkircher (Dixon) 3,039 YDS
He did this in 1997 and it’s still the third best in state history. Dixon has a great running back this season in Tyler Boston who has rushed for more than 2,000 yards.

2. Onterrio Smith (Grant) 2,753 YDS
This was from Grant’s 1998 season. Many would say that Onterrio is the best running back ever from the Sacramento area. He later played in the NFL.

3. Rudy Jones (Cordova, Rancho Cordova) 2,343 YDS
Sad to say that just last March that Rudy passed away at age 34 in Sacramento from heart and liver disease. His 2000 season for the Lancers will keep memories of him alive for a long time.

4. Damon Boddie (Cordova, Rancho Cordova) 2,293 YDS
He later played at Montana and is part of a great history of Lancers’ running backs. Damon had this total in 1990.

5. Marcus Fields (Stagg, Stockton) 2,253 YDS
This was from 1996 and Marcus later went on to play at Cal. He was recently inducted into the Stockton Athletic Hall of Fame.

This 30-minute show is twice as long as any other Friday night high school football show in the Sacramento market and is returning to the Friday at 11 p.m. time slot.

Watch this week’s show Friday at 11 p.m. for all the local highlights, plus the next Top 5 from CalHiSports.com, which will be a look at the top five all-time wins list for schools in section history. The show will include highlights from all of the biggest games in the region. Thanks to host Jim Crandell and the FOX 40 team for once again letting Cal-Hi Sports be part of this year’s show.
