Sac-Joaquin Section Grid-Hoopers

Last week on the FOX 40 Final Quarter high school football show, hosts Jim Crandell and Kristina Werner revealed a list of the top five best-ever grid-hoop athletes in CIF Sac-Joaquin Section history, according to CalHiSports.com.It’s a an especially fun list with the NBA starting next week.

Here is what that countdown revealed:

1. Matt Barnes (Del Campo)
Long-time NBA player also caught 25 TD passes in one season when he played football for the Cougars.

2. Shante Carver (Lincoln, Stockton)
First round draft pick by the Dallas Cowboys averaged 20 points per game when he played basketball for the Trojans.

3. Chuck Hayes (Modesto Christian)
Former Sacramento King received all-state recognition in both sports when in high school.

4. C.C. Sabathia (Vallejo)
Yes, he later became a star baseball pitcher, but he was the State Athlete of the Year for Vallejo because he also was outstanding in football and basketball.

5. Ryan Moya (Oak Ridge)
He averaged 17 points per game for a D2 state title team in basketball and later became one of the top tight ends in the Pac-12 at UCLA.
