WCAL trio at the top is the same but the order is different this week with Archbishop Mitty going back to No. 1 followed by Valley Christian. We provide these rankings as part of a promotion with the Cal-Hi Sports Bay Area TV show.
1. Archbishop Mitty (San Jose) 15-2
The Monarchs have a loss to Sacred Heart Cathedral, but they had a good showing in Las Vegas with a fifth-place finish at the Durango Fall classic, including wins over Los Alamitos and La Salle.
2. Valley Christian (San Jose) 14-2
Finished seventh in the Durango Fall Classic behind Torrey Pines, Lakewood, Mitty and Pasadena La Salle, but in front of Los Alamitos.
3. Sacred Heart Cathedral (San Francisco) 9-1
If Sacred Heart Cathedral beats Mitty again or can reverse a loss to Valley Christian, or both, then Irish deserve top spot.
4. Redwood (Larkspur) 14-0
The Giants didn’t go to Las Vegas but they did go to Sonoma Valley and went 6-0 in winning the Pagini Invitational. They beat previously unbeaten Napa Vintage 2-0 in the championship and went 12-1 in games at the tournament.
5. Monte Vista (Danville) 13-2
The Mustangs beat Acalanes 3-0 in Lafayette. So far the only team to get a game from Monte Vista is Redwood in the two 2-0 defeats. Other than that they are 29-0 against the rest.
6. Carondelet (Concord) 7-1
Lone loss is to Monte Vista. No action last week. Match on Tuesday.
7. Branson (Ross) 10-5
The four-time defending Division V state champions turned some heads at the Durango Classic and actually finished ahead of Homestead.
8. Homestead (Cupertino) 7-4
Finishing No. 26 at Durango actually isn’t that bad. That tournament is that loaded.
9. Maria Carrillo (Santa Rosa) 10-2
Lost 3-1 to Vintage early in season and 2-1 to Redwood at Sonoma Valley Tourney semis.
10. Presentation (San Jose) 9-4
Win last week over Menlo gets the Panthers back into the mix.
