I wish we could see the top 1-5 from NorCal match up against the top 1-5 from SoCal. It wouldn’t prove who is the state’s best but it would be some VERY interesting games.

I would like to see the top 10 teams regardless of division from the south take on the north’s top 10. Other than DLS and maybe Folsom I can’t see them winning another game. The south gets screwed in bowl games because most of the best teams play in one or two playoff brackets so 6-8 of the state’s top 25 programs don’t even get a shot to win a bowl game because only playoff champions are allowed to compete. Compare the playoff bracket that SJ Bosco just played to that of DeLaSalle and tell me how that’s fair. It’s a complete lopsided joke to be honest.

I have heard these so cal dominance predictions before.. in 2010 before PA beat CC… and in 2012 before GB beat Poly… and before Grant beat Poly… Facts are Nor cal is 8-4 vs Socal in the Open and D1 games… ALL at least 350 miles from home mind you….man o man is Nor Cal in Darin’s head…

Agree that SoCal has a lot more good teams than NorCal but that has also never proved that SoCal’s No. 1 team is better than NorCal’s No. 1 team or should always be ranked higher. We hear this all the time in every sport. The CIFSS also wants its top division (Pac-5) to be that competitive and moves leagues around to make it happen. They know it will perhaps hurt teams from the section from winning a state title in a lower division but their priority is to make their section playoffs as strong and as exciting as possible. Sorry you think DLS cheating with its line is the main reason it has won for so long and often so convincingly against the best SoCal team.

I am very curious as to why SJ Bosco is not ranked #1 when overall strength of schedule is so much greater than DeLaSalle’s? They have faced 9 opponents (10 after this weekend) ranked in the Calpreps top 250. DLS has faced 4 (5 after this weekend). That is a schedule rated 2X more difficult. They have one more victory and no losses to boot. I know until someone beats them you are going to claim that DLS is #1 but shouldn’t rankings be based on merit and not suppositions?

Overall strength of the schedule in our system gets trumped by other facts such as four straight Open Division bowl titles, 40 straight wins, 65 straight wins over California teams, beating SoCal No. 1 teams 28-14, 48-8, 35-0, 49-28. That means nothing in a computer system but it means a lot more in ours. If you like the other way, there are places you can go to see it. That’s just as much merit as strength of schedule.

Is this the same computer that has a non playoff team,JSerra, at #15 in CA? The same computer that a week ago had MD #9 in the US of A? Might not be the best proof source.

Where is Bakersfield in your ratings? Don’t they play Del Oro in bowl game? I don’t see them. Weird. Yet they are the #10 team in the rankings. Confused.

Bakersfield would be No. 6 in D1 South behind Bosco, Centennial, Mater Dei, Mission Viejo, LB Poly. If they win on Friday, we will probably reconsider that order but Bak would not be put in front of LB Poly.

Bakersfield was one of two teams to beat Poly early last season and did so handily. Poly beat the Drillers early this year in a game that was 13-7 going into the 4th and had several costly turnovers. Not saying Drillers would have won that game, but they have improved each week since, as did Poly last season after their loss to BHS. If they were to play again, I believe the outcome would be different. Furthermore, their only other loss was to Oaks Christian in the opening game. If not for a missed chip-shot field goal as time expired, they pull out the win. Why not put them above LB if they win the D1 bowl game Friday night? Seems like a reversed situation from last year when Poly beat CN in the D1 title game.

As a Pirate fan, I feel the Pirate coaching staff ruined a potential great season. All their arguments are based on ego and self preservation narcissism. Next year may be a drop, but watch out for the 2015 team ! New qb and great talent. Go Pirates
