We were going to skip one week of softball rankings due a spring football event we covered on Sunday plus we need to finish up the girls basketball all-state teams. We had to do an update, however, since there is a new No. 1 team plus other changes further down due to wild-and-wacky league races...

One of the four honorees this week had a performance nominated by our own Harold Abend during the middle of a move from Petaluma to Orange County. Another is a younger sister of the quarterback from last season’s state/national championship football team. The four are from Petaluma and San Bruno in Northern California and Rancho […]

NEW Softball State TOP 35 Rankings
It’s a big week for Orange County as Orange Lutheran, Pacifica (Garden Grove) and Canyon (Anaheim) have all moved up into the top five and OLu goes to third. Los Alamitos also rejoins the top 10 and Esperanza goes up nine spots. The big mover in Northern California is Whitney of Rocklin (up 10 spots)....
SoCal/NorCal Players of the Week
Despite the fact it’s the most important week in high school basketball in California, we have traditionally switched from the hardwood to the baseball and softball fields this week. Many of the basketball players still going are going to eventually receive all-state recognition. We don’t have any state record book entries this week but certainly […]

NEW Baseball State Division Ranks
The only new No. 1 team in this week’s divisional state baseball rankings is CIF Southern Section Division 4 top seed South of Torrance, which is now No. 1 for the state in D3. Still No. 1 would be Harvard-Westlake (D1), Beckman of Irvine (D2), Winters (D4) and St. Vincent de Paul (D5). Those making...
Cali Super Bowl Alums 2018
It’s another close battle between California, Texas and Florida for the state having the most Super Bowl players but for this year’s game between the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles it’s a win for Texas. California and Florida are right behind tied for second. Neither of those two states, of course, can claim the […]
NorCal/SoCal Players of the Week
One of our choices this week is pitcher Jonathan Guardado from Nogales of La Puente, who threw his fourth no-hitter of the season and along with a pitcher from Sage Hill (Newport Beach) is just one away from tying state record. Our other honorees are from Petaluma, Porterville and Ramona.
NorCal/SoCal Players of the Week
Big-time recruit Jaelan Phillips does something to get this week’s SoCal Defensive POW honor and get his name into the state record book. Our NorCal Offensive POW, meanwhile, throws for nearly 500 yards in 74-32 win. Other chosen this week are from Atherton, Petaluma, Villa Park and Santa Maria.
