Girls VB: Mitty State Team of Year

We’ve updated our all-time State Team of the Year list back to 1972 and it’s the sixth time since 2008 that Archbishop Mitty of San Jose reigns as California’s top squad in girls volleyball. Monarchs topped Santa Margarita in a three-game sweep last Saturday to win first-ever CIF Open Division state title.

San Diego area teams La Costa Canyon and Santa Fe Christian make strong moves, but the top of the order stays the same after developments at the Nike Tournament of Champions in Arizona. No. 1 Mater Dei and No. 2 Mitty, however, both had their chances to be mythical national champion diminished.

First 2016 Girls VBall State Top 20

Mater Dei of Santa Ana rides early win over Archbishop Mitty to No. 1 national and state rankings. Mitty then helps out by winning the title last week at Durango Fall Classic in Las Vegas. These first rankings also see six teams from insanely-tough West Catholic Athletic League all get placed high.
