Girls BB: Updated State Top 20

Long Beach Poly goes to the top of the heap prior to the Nike TOC and West Coast Jamboree. St. Mary’s of Stockton, meanwhile, moves up a spot to No. 2. There also are seven new teams in this week’s pecking order, led by new No. 11 Alemany of Mission Hills.

Saturday Girls CIF State Finals

Long Beach Poly beats Salesian in Open Division and will be No. 1 in the state. Chaminade adds another title in Division II championship, its third of the school year. Sierra Canyon also wins one for the San Fernando Valley in Division IV.

SoCal Girls BB Regional Finals

Big winners include Long Beach Poly, Canyon Springs, Chaminade, Santa Barbara, Sierra Canyon and La Jolla Country Day. Jackrabbits seem to have become healthy and have jelled at just the right time. Sierra Canyon wins in matchup of 2013 CIF state champions from different divisions. Look for our CIF state finals’ predictions on Monday.

SoCal Open Girls: Poly prevails

Etiwanda was facing a juggernaut used to being in position to compete for a state title in Saturday’s CIF Southern California Open Division final at Citizen’s Bank Arena in Ontario, but it was not intimidated and was within striking distance to perhaps pull off a second consecutive upset.
