With annual selection of high school players for the MLB Draft now proposed to be stopped by the league itself, we thought about all of the high schoolers from California who’ve been selected in the first round since the draft began in 1965. Here’s a ranking of the top 12 of those players plus a ranking of the top seven players who were first rounders but never played beyond the AAA level. We also have a worst ever first-round pick (who is a convicted murderer). It’s always been fun tracking these players and we hope we will be able to continue to do it under the next Collective Bargaining Agreement.
