Thanks to Contra Costa County, the Bay Area is well-represented in this week’s CIF NorCal bowl games and may have three teams going for CIF state titles in two weeks. Congrats to all teams that played in section finals last weekend in the NCS and CCS.
CCS Open Division swallows up No. 2 Milpitas and No. 3 Serra while Sacred Heart Prep is into the semifinals at 11-0. NCS top seeds De La Salle, Clayton Valley and Campolindo, meanwhile, are rolling and positioning for runs toward CIF state titles.
Serra moves up to No. 2 as unbeaten team so far within the WCAL. Milpitas is right behind and could jump the Padres next week with a win on Friday in a showdown against Los Gatos. San Leandro, meanwhile, is this week’s only newcomer.
McClymonds makes a statement by overwhelming previously unbeaten Analy but can’t move up in the rankings with St. Ignatius and Liberty having to go even higher. Mitty’s win over Pittsburg and Los Gatos suffering close loss in Stockton also impacts this week’s pecking order.
San Ramon Valley and Los Gatos make the biggest moves while St. Ignatius and Bishop O’Dowd both break in. One of those teams is now coached by a former Cal-Hi Sports Mr. Football State Player of the Year.
