We begin this week with some explanations from the CIF and our own thoughts on Sunday’s release of pairings for both the NorCal and SoCal regional playoffs. We also have a big change at the top as Sierra Canyon has to move up to No. 1 after beating previous No. 1 Ontario Christian in the CIF Southern Section Open Division final with Ontario Christian still needing to be in front of previous No. 2 Archbishop Mitty due to having a head-to-head win vs the Monarchs. Others making moves this week include Clovis West of Fresno, La Salle of Pasadena and Archbishop Riordan of San Francisco.

Intro Message from Girls BB editor Harold Abend
The seeds were out as of Sunday at 4pm, and ever since my cell phone and X/Twitter feeds have been blowing up with coaches and other people scratching their heads with how the state CIF came about selecting the seeds in the Open and Division I fields. They don’t match the MaxPreps rankings which as of March 1 had Ontario Christian ahead of Sierra Canyon, and Carondelet behind San Ramon Valley. The seedings in Division I don’t in most cases match the MaxPreps rankings either, and the SILive rankings the CIF Southern Section used in its seedings haven’t been updated as of March 1. So, the question arises how did the CIF come up with these seedings?
