At this stage of the season, we like to talk about the funnel narrowing when it comes to the Players of the Week features and rankings. That’s because the field basically gets cut in half every round (except in some Open and D1 divisions) as the playoffs drive toward CIF section championships and the CIF regional and state championships. Right now, it’s section championship weekend coming up and soon we will be moving on to baseball and softball players of the week. So, while we may not have some astronomical numbers statistically to chronicle or Cal-Hi Sports Online Record Book entries to track this week, we have performances that were instrumental in the award winner’s team moving on in the playoffs. Our honorees this week are from Mission Viejo and Valencia in Southern California, and in Northern California they’re from Atascadero and Concord.
