This is another week where we don’t have any entries to track for the Cal-Hi Sports Online Record Book, which is one of the goals of this feature, but we more than fulfilled the other objective of the feature and that is to track and uncover hidden talent for statewide recognition to go with local acknowledgement. This week our stops are in Solana Beach and Glendora in Southern California, and in Northern California we visit Livingston and Roseville.

Cal-Hi Sports Southern California
Boys Player of the Week

Dax Hall (Santa Fe Christian, Solana Beach) Sr.

To find the latest SoCal Player of the Week we head to the North County portion of the CIF San Diego Section and land just north of Del Mar a couple blocks west of the I-5, and around a mile east of the Pacific Ocean in Solana Beach, and it’s at Santa Fe Christian where we find this week’s honoree.

First, let us give you the facts about Dax. He’s the younger brother of San Diego Section No. 2 all-time leading scorer Jake Hall, who played at Carlsbad High and is now starring as a freshman at New Mexico. However, that’s not the reason at all why we’re honoring this Hall, because Dax has been making his own mark in the state’s southernmost section.

Last week, in a 62-52 win over San Diego St. Augustine, Dax, a 6-foot-2 senior guard, just missed a double-double after he exploded for 38 points (four three-pointers) with nine rebounds, four assists and four steals. Here’s another fact about Dax. Three days later, and in a 90-58 win over Bonita Vista of Chula Vista, Hall not only got a double-double but recorded a triple-double after going for 25 points, 11 rebounds, 12 assists plus two steals.

So far in a 17-1 season that Dax has helped Santa Fe Christian elevate to No. 28 in the most recent Cal-Hi Sports state rankings, Hall is averaging a very solid all-around 28.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, 7.9 assists and 3.7 steals per game. The 38 points last week was almost his season high. Hall has been over 30 points seven times with a high of 42 points in a 85-61 win over San Diego Cathedral Catholic.

Despite only being on varsity for two years, Dax has eclipsed the 1,000-point career mark and currently sits at 1,110 points, plus he’s closing in on 500 career rebounds.

Boys Player of the Week

Adrian Aguirre (Livingston) Sr.

The search for this week’s NorCal Player of the Week takes us to the southern portion of the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section, where we land not far off Highway 99 just about halfway between Turlock to the north and Merced to the south at Livingston High. It’s at Livingston where we find this week award winner who now adds a statewide honor to getting local kudos.

It’s been an up-and-down season for the 7-9 Wolves, but one thing that’s been pretty consistent is the play of the their 5-foot-11 senior guard.

A week ago on Monday, and in a 77-70 win over Ceres, Aguirre delivered 34 points (one three-pointer) with eight rebounds and five assists. Later in the week, he had 19 points in a loss to Modesto Beyer and 22 points in a win over Modesto Grace Davis.

For the season, the 34 points is not close to his season high where he is averaging 26.8 points per game with 53 converted three-pointers. On two occasions Adrian has accounted for 44 points. First, in a 70-62 win over Orestimba of Newman and then in a 66-42 first match-up with Ceres. In the first Ceres win he made 12 three-pointers and that number will get him a spot in the Cal-Hi Sports Online Record Book on the Most Three-Pt. Field Goals Made (Game) list in the Boys BB Individual Records (Scoring, Shooting) section.

Cal-Hi Sports Southern California
Girls Player of the Week

Reagan “Ronnie” Herrmann (Glendora) Sr.

We head to the San Gabriel Valley in search of the SoCal Girls Player of the Week and it’s at Glendora High just about midway between Historic Route 66 to the south and East Foothill Blvd to the north where we find Herrmann, who now gets some statewide recognition for her recent achievements.

Herrmann has been the leading scorer for the 19-2 Tartans but last week in a 61-32 victory over Claremont, “Ronnie” as she called, she poured in a season high 33 points (three three-pointers) with eight rebounds and three assists.

It was the eighth time the 5-foot-9 senior wing, who also plays linebacker and wide receiver on the Glendora Flag Football team, has gone for 20 or more points this season. Herrmann is averaging 19.3 points, 8.1 rebounds, 6.8 assists and 5.5 steals per game.

The three-year varsity player recently joined the 1,000-career point club and now has 1,116 points as well as 608 rebounds, 363 assists and 303 steal for her career.

Cal-Hi Sports Northern California
Girls Player of the Week

Janet Donkor (Valley Christian, Roseville) Sr.

Placer County and the Sacramento Metro suburb of Roseville is our destination in search of the NorCal Girls Player of the Week. This is not the first time that Donkor has graced our pages since as a sophomore and junior she was selected All State for Division 5, but this will be her first weekly honor to go with those end of season awards.

Janet has been lighting it up all season just like she has in all three of her previous seasons for the Lions’ girls, but last week was our chance to give her another statewide honor to go with local recognition. She had 31 points in a big 67-60 win over Sacramento Adventist of Carmichael. It was the fourth time for the 12-2 Lions’ girls that Donker has gone for 30 or more points this season with a high of 35 points in a 61-45 win over Sacramento Waldorf of Fair Oaks.

Her career stats show just why she was chosen all-state. If she continues her 25.9 points per game average and Valley Christian makes some noise in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section D5 playoffs, there is a good change she will eclipse the 2,000-point career scoring mark. She currently stands at 1,772 career points.
