When the 2024 softball season began, there was an expected duel between two players who had a good shot at breaking the career state record for home runs. When the dust cleared, Dani Jackman from University Prep of Victorville had taken over the previous record of 60 held by Tannon Snow of Chino Hills (2015) with a final career total of 64. Sofia Mujica from Grossmont of El Cajon added 13 homers to her career total and finished with 60 to tie Snow’s previous record.

There isn’t anything similar to start the 2025 season, but there are some younger players coming up that could eventually get up near the top of the all-time career home run list. The most prolific of those players have been junior Jaeda Diaz of Indio and senior Alyssa Torres from Valley View of Moreno Valley.

As a sophomore last spring, Jaeda bashed 19 homers to gain entry onto the single-season list. But she also already has a tie for a state record for hitting four homers in one game when Indio had a 38-3 rout of Desert Hot Springs. Diaz also had 64 hits last season to make the record list in that category. For season RBI, Jaeda piled up 75 in in 27 games and put herself at No. 10 all-time.

At the start of this season, Diaz had 28 career homers in just 53 games with two more seasons to go. Her season has begun very well, too. In fact, entering this week, Jaeda had smashed one home run in each of her team’s first five games so she already has five for this season and is now up to 33 for her career.

Torres had two more homers on the season last year than Diaz with 20. She also went on to the tail end of the most RBI for a season list with 55.

Figuring out and adding all of Jackman’s state records at University Prep almost was a major project just by itself. The graduated senior capped her career with 20 homers and 82 RBI. She not only broke Snow’s career home run record, but obliterated the career RBI record with 283. The previous state career RBI record of 238 by Mila Rodriguez from Millennium of Tracy in 2018 was surpassed by Dani early in her senior season. Her record total is likely going to last for a very, very long time. Jackman also ended her career with a .647 batting average (222 for 343) and 55 career doubles.

UNBEATEN TEAMS FROM LAST SEASON ALSO
EARNED SEVERAL STATE RECORD LISTINGS

There were two unbeaten teams during the 2024 California high school softball season and as one would expect both the 30-0 Sutter Huskies of the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section and the 22-0 Ganesha Giants of Pomona in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section posted impressive offensive and pitching records.

Sutter went to the CIF NorCal D3 regional playoffs after winning the SJS D5 title and rolled past Dixon, 13-1, in the title game. Head coach Stefanie Danna’s squad finished 30-0, which is tied for the fourth best unbeaten record in state history. The Huskies didn’t set a school record, though, since they went 34-0 in 2009 that not only is the school record, but also is the current state record. In the last four seasons, the small school a few miles west of Yuba City and in the shadows of the Sutter Buttes also has gone 113-3 (which also is believed to be the best four-year record in state history).

A 370-27 scoring margin for Sutter didn’t set records, but the squad from last year did gain several all-time state listings. Its highest addition was eighth for most doubles in a season with 90. The Huskies also have been added at ninth all-time for their .477 overall team batting average (395 for 828). Their total of 395 hits on the season also is now on the list.

Individually, Sutter’s team from last season (and with its number of games) also had several additions to the state record lists. Pitcher Olivia Bauer led the way with her perfect 25-0 record. She also was one of the team’s top hitters, but the two who gained state record listings were Grace Diaz with 60 hits and 54 runs scored and Alexa Carino with 60 RBI.

Ganesha did not go to the CIF SoCal regional playoffs after head coach Patricia Joines and her players chose to opt out of them. The Giants won their second straight CIFSS D6 title with a 21-1 romp past Viewpoint of Calabasas and had an official record of 22-0, although two of the wins were forfeits. When a team has forfeits and actual games are not played, that definitely can affect any record book totals since nothing can be added for a player and the team.

While Sutter had a .477 overall batting average, Ganesha’s was over .500 at .518 based on 320 hits in 618 official at-bats. That is the third highest in state history. Ganesha also still had 347 runs scored in 20 on-field games and it made the record book for both season doubles (82) and season triples (27).

Both teams had a lot of senior standouts so the same level of dominance isn’t expected this season. If they keep rolling, however, we’ll be ready to put in any more state record totals.

MORE PLAYERS ADDED TO ALL-TIME
STATE RECORDS

(and this isn’t even all of them)

Alexis Alvarado (Fowler)
She had a hit in every game of her senior season (27 games) and also had a hit in her last 15 games of the 2023 season. Alvarado therefore graduated with a 42-game hitting streak, which is third-longest in state history.

Cynthia Arellano (Overfelt, San Jose)
Player from Class of 2024 batted .737 and had enough at-bats (50 is minimum) to go on the all-time state list. She also tied the state record by hitting four homers in a win vs Yerba Buena.

Marilyn Beauvais (Western Christian, Upland)
The four-year standout for the Lancers gained state record listings with 31 career homers and a .534 career batting average (based on 148 hits in 277 at-bats).

Rylee Bocchini (Liberty, Madera Ranchos)
Now at Fresno State, Rylee made history by hitting three homers in her final three at-bats in a game vs Riverdale and then hit three homers in her first three at-bats in the next game vs Parlier. The six straight homers established a new state record.

Ilove’a Brittingham had 18 homers last season and finished career with 31 for Oaks Christian. She is now at BYU. Photo: Oaks Christian athletics / MaxPreps.com.

Ilove’a Brittingham & Rylee McCoy
(Oaks Christian, Westlake Village)

These two seniors for last season helped Oaks bash another high total of homers last season (50) that made the all-time list. Ilove’a also had 18 homers on the year and ended with 31 career homers. Rylee didn’t hit enough homers last season to make the record book but had 33 for her career, which does. She also had 45 career doubles and 153 RBI, and both of those totals are high enough for the book.

Gianna “GiGi” Butler
& Abi Milton (Muir, Pasadena)

Both of these Mustangs’ underclass players from last season — Butler was a sophomore and Milton was a junior — got their names added to the all-time home run list. They both had 14 homers for the year. They also both landed on other lists as Butler had 62 RBI and Milton scored 55 runs.

Aleena Garcia (Whittier Christian, La Habra)
The current UCLA freshman tied the state record as a junior at Whittier Christian for most doubles in a season with 24. She didn’t do anything record-wise like that last season as a senior but finished her career with 26 homers and 51 doubles (both of those totals are now booked).

Daijah Jones (Overfelt, San Jose)
As a sophomore last spring, Daijah had three triples in one game (31-17 win vs James Lick) and had 10 triples for the season, both of which are totals that have gone into our records.

Ashleigh Mejia (Santiago, Corona)
The four-year player for the Sharks from 2021 through 2024 capped her career with 31 homers. She’s now at Arizona State.

Ella Pace (Oxford Academy, Cypress)
Her team put up some big totals last season and Pace did individually. She earned two all-time state list additions by scorig 58 runs and collecting 66 hits.

Haiden Priddell (Le Grand)
The junior last season for the Merced County school came through for 21 doubles to put her name on the single-season list.

Cambria Salmon (Beaumont)
Now a freshman at Texas, Salmon is the only player added this time for both pitching and hitting. The pitching total that made the book is for career strikeouts (1,006). Cambria also had 26 career homers in her high school career.

Taylor Shumaker (Esperanza, Anaheim)
She’s already tearing it up at Florida as a freshman. She hit 18 homers last season that threatened the Orange County record of 20.

Kodie Townsend (Sonora)
She’ll be a senior at the Tuolumne County school this season and has 26 career homers. That’s already good enough for the all-time state list.

Mia Vasquez (Granite Hills, Apple Valley)
Another graduated player, Mia went on to the all-time list for most doubles in a season with 22, which was a total from last season helped when she had four in one game (also now on the all-time list).

Lisa Villanueva (King City)
In her senior season of 2024, Lisa hit 13 homers to push her career total to 36. That put her firmly onto the all-time state list.

Alyssa Williams (Rio Linda)
It had to be double-checked because she’d never been reported with anything close to it before, but her head coach confirmed that she did in fact have four home runs in a 28-4 win vs Foothill of Sacramento. That tied the state record.
