When the very first Cal-Hi Sports state football rankings were compiled in the late 1970s by founder Nelson Tennis, they were done in five divisions (Class AAAA, etc.). Sorry for the delay in getting them out, but here they are for the 2023 season. Already announced as No. 1 teams were Mater Dei of Santa Ana (D1), La Serna of Whittier (D2), Central Valley Christian of Visalia (D3), Escalon (D4) and Woodland Christian (D5).
