For the first time ever, the Bay Area Basketball Coaches Association (BABCA), with the approval of both the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) and California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) is hosting Girls California Live ’23. The inaugural event takes place June 15-17, 2023 during the only girls NCAA June Scholastic Live Period.

Girls California Live ’23 will be held in Roseville at the 12-court Roebbelen Center. Randy Bessolo, the president of BABCA and the boys head coach at University High of San Francisco, is the event coordinator. The co-directors of the inaugural girls event in California are longtime prep sports journalist and noted girls basketball analyst Harold Abend of Cal-Hi Sports and Prep2Prep, and head coaches Buck Matthews of Priory (Portola Valley) and Maya Fok of St. Ignatius (San Francisco).

The event is limited to high school teams from California that are full CIF members and select schools from Nevada and Oregon, and is intended to showcase teams with Division I college prospects but also lower level prospects as well. There is an application process for CIF and select Nevada and Oregon teams to be selected for this prestigious event.

Girls high school coaches at CIF member programs can access the application by CLICKING HERE or via the Girls California Live website:  www.girlscalilive23.com

Girls California Live ’23 provides a platform for high school student-athletes to demonstrate their talent in front of NCAA Womens’s basketball coaches in a scholastic setting with their high school teams. For the first time ever, CIF programs, both boys and girls, will be able to participate in an event sanctioned and hosted in California. During the past four years when there was no mandate for a girls event, and as such the CIF chose not to participate, many of the CIF’s top programs traveled to Arizona for Section 7.

BABCA is a professional organization founded for all basketball coaches in the San Francisco Bay Area and was formed during the Let Them Play period of the pandemic in 2021. The mission of the BABCA is to support, educate and advocate for high school basketball coaches and their players.
