Despite our wholehearted support of the state CIF and the difficulty of seeding so many teams in so many divisions with competitive equity looking over the shoulders of the seeding committees, we can’t help but think a different format may be needed for the Open Division going forward. Are five or six teams (and in the case of one bracket all six from the same section) a true Open Division? A new format that reduces the teams to a final eight or even a Final Four like in college basketball could be a solution. For this year, we have what we have. This week’s rankings still have some differences than the seedings in the Open Division but all of them are explained below.
