NEW State Top 25 Boys BB Rankings

Obinna Anyanwu (2) celebrates with his teammates from No. 20 Cathedral Catholic after Dons won CIF San Diego Section Open Division title last Saturday. A few hours later, he was in an auto-related accident and seriously injured. It’s a blow for the school moving into this week, but it could have been much worse. Photo: @CCHSAthletics / Twitter.com.

The CIF stayed true to its message about competitive equity when it released its boys basketball state regional pairings with the state’s top teams in both NorCal and SoCal receiving byes. This model also created a situation where all of the six participants in the SoCal open division are from the massive CIF Southern Section, which fans and coaches don’t seem to like from early indications. This week’s rankings feature three newcomers with two more weeks to go.
