Our new boys hoops rankings sees the top ranked team from the CIF San Diego Section go back into the rankings but we couldn’t quite yet get in the No. 1 team from the CIF Central Section. There are some other changes, the majority of which involves Trinity League teams. Speaking of the Trinity, what does Santa Margarita’s big win over Rancho Christian mean for both teams? 1. (1) Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth) 19-1
The Trailblazers only had one game last week and it was a 90-68 victory over Viewpoint of Calabasas in Gold Coast League play. Head coach Andre Chevalier’s program was scheduled to host Coronado (Henderson, Nev.) in a showcase game last Saturday, but that team pulled out of the event. Unsigned senior Cassius Stanley led the way vs. Viewpoint with 25 points while Scottie Pippen Jr., who recently committed to Vanderbilt, netted 20 points. MLK week will be big for Sierra Canyon in order to keep its mythical national title hopes alive. After taking on L.A. Windward and Crossroads of Santa Monica in league play, the Trailblazers will venture to Springfield, Mass., where they face FAB 50 No. 3 Montverde Academy on MLK Monday at the Hoophall Classic. The Eagles handed Sierra Canyon its only loss of the season after it was denied the opportunity to play a La Lumiere of Indiana team that is currently the top-ranked team in the nation. Sierra Canyon wants to avenge its only loss and see La Lumiere and No. 2 McEachern of Georgia lose before the end of the season.
