NEW State Softball Division Ranks

Players from East Nicolaus gather for team photo after winning CIF Northern Section title and ending “greatest season in school history.” The final D5 state rankings are going to reflect that as well. Photo: Spartan Softball / Facebook.com.

Heading into Thursday games, here’s an updated look at the various races for final No. 1 rankings according to our five-division format. Two teams from this year’s finals in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section, Benicia and Woodland Christian, both lost out on chances to end No. 1 in the state by dropping the first game in a double-elimination championship. Benicia could still end No. 1, but for D5 we’re going with East Nicolaus, which has completed its season. Also No. 1 would be Cathedral Catholic (D1), Buena of Ventura (D2), West of Torrance (D3) and unbeaten Templeton (D4).
