CIF Central Sec: Five school records

Here’s some record updates and highlights of top coaches, players & teams from the past two weeks as reported to us from CIF Central Section historian Bob Barnett of Fresno. Bob has done phenomenal work on behalf of CIF Central Section schools, athletes and coaches for more than 40 years.

SOFTBALL

Frazier Mountain’s Emily Lira set a new Central Section record by stealing 11 bases (11-for-11) in 30-1 win two weeks ago over California City. Emily also went 2-for-3 at the plate with two walks and hit by a pitch and scored five times. Heading into last week, Lira led the section in stolen bases with 42.

Senior Callie Vincent of Woodlake set a school record by hitting three triples, also went 5-for-5 at the plate, scored five times and had a game high of six RBI in a 24-1 win last week over Strathmore.

Coalinga pounded Avenal 37-1 last week with 28 hits and eight doubles. Freshman Maci Martin set a school record with eight RBI, scored six times, hit three doubles and was perfect at the plate by going 5-for-5. Teammate junior Kristina Garcia also went 5-for-5 at the plate, scored six times & had two RBI.

Senior Allison Williams of Rosamond was perfect at the plate last week with 4-for-4 on hits, scored four times, hit two doubles and had a career high of six RBI for the game in a 15-5 over California City.

Pria Bun of Woodlake had a career day with six RBI and went 4-for-5 at the plate in a 14-13 win over Corcoran in a East Sequoia League game from two weeks ago. Bun also had a home run, double and scored three times.

Edison High of Fresno opened the County/Metro League two weeks ago with the team hitting five home runs in a 17-2 win over San Joaquin Memorial. Kayla Bowen led the way by hitting two home runs with six RBI and teammate Mackenzie Soper also hit two home runs, good for five RBI and was the winning pitcher with 10 strikeouts. In the second game of the week, Kayla Bowen had two hits, three RBI and hit her 8th home run of the season in a 1-0 win over Madera South.

Also two weeks ago, freshman Mikayla Hoggard of Sierra Pacific (Hanford) was perfect at the plate by going 4-for-4 with a career high of six RBI, three doubles and scored four times in a 21-3 win over Strathmore. Mikayla also had two more hits for the week and one RBI in a 18-6 win over Corcoran.

BASEBALL

Sophomore William Reece of Strathmore set two school records by going 5-for-6 at the plate & scoring six times last week in a 21-5 romp past Granite Hills of Porterville. Reece also had five RBI and stole four bases in the same game.

Also from last week, Brodie Maloney of Bishop Union had a career day by going 5-for-5 at the plate with two triples and six RBI in a 24-3 win over Desert of Edwards.

Finally from two weeks ago, tt was a tie for a school record for Chase Schellenger of Liberty Madera Ranchos when he went 5-for-6 at the plate, hit two doubles, scored four times, and had one triple in a 20-6 win over Sierra of Tollhouse.
