CIF Central Sec: Staying hot in Exeter

Here’s some record updates and highlights of top coaches, players & teams from the past week as reported to us from CIF Central Section historian Bob Barnett of Fresno. Bob has done phenomenal work on behalf of CIF Central Section schools, athletes and coaches for more than 40 years.

SOFTBALL

Visalia Golden West’s Audra Pratt had a great day as she hit two home runs and had six RBI in a 11-2 win over Liberty of Madera Ranchos in the Tulare Western tournament.

Sydney Kuma of Caruthers had 18 strikeouts on a one-hitter in seven innings during a 9-1 win over Lindsay. Kuma also hit a home run and scored four times in that game. The next day at the Fowler Easter Classic, Kuma went 3-for-4 at the plate with one homer, a triple and scored three times in an 11-1 win over Immanuel of Reedley for third place in the tournament.

Junior Corrine Acosta of Exeter stayed hot for the season as she went 3 for 4 at the plate and scored one run in a 6-2 win over Sierra Pacific of Hanford. In the second game of the day, Acosta went 4-for-4 at the plate, scored four times and had three RBI in a 16-0 romp past Mission Oak of Tulare. Acosta also had five stolen bases in that second game to make her 29-for-29 on steals for the season. Teammate Nicole Rocha was 3-for-3 at the plate and had five RBI in that second game as well.

BASEBALL

James Bell led Clovis North of Fresno (15-2) to the 49th Fresno Easter Classic title championship over Redwood of Visalia 9-6. Bell hit a grand slam in the second inning and had six RBI for the game. In five games of the tourney, Bell (who has signed with Oregon) went 10-for-18 with bat in hand, including two doubles with 12 RBI. He also scored seven times.
