Has there ever been any thought to having a Small School top 20 or top 10 for the San Joaquin Section?

We used to have divisional state rankings every week (including small schools) but now it’s become so hard to classify what is a small school. Can’t go by enrollment anymore. We will have CIF bowl game rankings starting next week that will show projected section champions from across the state and many of those teams will be from small schools. We can add a small school top five or something similar to the SJS post as well.

Just a quick comment, I read recently (may have been via Joe Davidson’s post in the Sac Bee) but Folsom is made up of mostly Sophomores and Juniors. Depending on this year’s results, it is possible Folsom has another year or two together…similar to when Jake Browning and co. had 3 years together. If that happens, it will be interesting to see how good and potentially dominant they can become. Let’s hope we do not have another 2014 when Folsom was simply unbeatable but did not have a chance to play DLS, MD, Centennial, or SJB due to CIF playoff set-up.

I would like to see Folsom schedule DLS and/or a true out-of-state power next year, that is the one thing I feel they have been missing the last few years.

I agree. No more Idaho games. Centennial may have an opening, too. That’s a game that has been years in the making.

No discussion that I know of. Just wishful thinking on my part. They should just try to play De La Salle. DLS will have a few real good players back, but nothing ridiculous like Mater Dei or Bosco will have.

Just heard the committee made a decision to keep Oakdale in D3 for playoffs. May as well give Oakdale the Section banner now. Oakdale had NO problem driving on Folsom. A face mask penalty and an interception right before half was a big game changer. Still only lost to the 11th ranked team in state by 16 pts. Oakdale doesn’t have much competition in D3. They have been to a section championship 6 times since 2010 and won 3 of those. Like I said, the section may as well hand the banner to them now. I’m an Oakdale fan and would liked to have seen some good hard fought games in playoffs. It’s going to be blowouts all the way through the D3 playoffs for Oakdale, especially since they will be playing at the Corral…. can’t help to feel bad for some of these other teams like CB for example, that only went to 1 championship in 20 something years not to get a chance to win a title.

I would pick Oakdale ahead of Sacramento but that is a team with a lot of guys who actually got a win against Folsom last season. And it was 28-19 this season against Folsom. Don’t see a blowout in that one.
