NEW Sac-Joaquin Sec Top 20

Once again, since the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section is the one for our home base in Stockton, we’ll put together a weekly Top 20 for that section this season. Oak Ridge, Granite Bay and Manteca all get big scares but all three avoid upsets. Watch the FOX40 Final Quarter on Fridays at 11 p.m. for all the highlights and to see our latest SJS Top 5 List.

with the way folsom is already playing and season has just started, I do not see any challenge the rest of the way (save maybe next week at Oakdale but sill expecting big win)….it will be interesting to see if they can run the course until playoffs and then meet St. Mary’s……..

out of curiosity, is this team mostly made u of sophs and jrs? I am just wondering for next year……. this is still far away, but if Folsom does dominate this year and stays in tact for next year, could we see a similar story to the 2014 team that was just simply amazing?

Haven’t seen them yet in person and probably won’t for a few more weeks. The 2014 team had great linemen too. Don’t know about this group. If they really want to go for it next yr, seek out DLS in the preseason because the only way any NorCal team is going to go to the open division bowl game is to beat DLS. As long as DLS hasn’t lost to a NorCal team (north of Fresno) since 1991, that isn’t going to change.

I read that part of the reason for their dominance thus far this year is due to line play on both sides…please let us know your thoughts when you see Folsom this year and how they could look going into next year….they should try to get DLS scheduled, however it never seems DLS wants to play a local team unless they are confident they will win (yes DO played them twice, but DO was not expected to Win)…DLS has never scheduled Grant, they played Folsom twice in Nor Cal Open but did not schedule them during the season (as in 2014) or does not schedule a local team in the years they have lost talent or could be more vulnerable..i have not seen DLS schedule a local team in any year they expected to actually be more vulnerable

Right, DLS coaches have the time to look over Sac-Joaquin teams and decide on the ones they do not want to play because they might lose. That’s why they’ve never lost to an SJS team. Since 1991, there’s only been maybe 3-4 SJS teams that would have had a chance. And don’t blame them for not playing Folsom in 2014. Blame the CIF for getting rid of the NorCal and SoCal Open Division bowl games. Those still make sense in the North, but in the South it would just be another slaughter for Mater Dei/Bosco/Centennial, etc.

i am simply making an observation…obviously dls cannot schedule a sjs every year, and each year and each team is different but as i pointed out, there are years dls is expected to be “down” and as a coach you know when you will be losing talent, but yet dls has not scheduled a sjs team (outside maybe st. marys in the past) during those years…they could have easily scheduled grant by now, could have scheduled folsom outside of the nor cal opens, could have scheduled granite bay during strong years etc…its not a perfect science but an observation…dls maybe the measuring stick of nor cal and most of ca hs football, but you have a clear bias toward them and teams in so cal….by tbe shear fact that using your own rationale you state the winner of the open should be the state hs team of the year (which i disagree as folsom did more impressive things, unique accomplishments in 2014 than dls did that year) but yet the one year a sjs team won the open (grant in 2008) you elected centennial to be team of year because they beat dls…yet grant was undefeated, had two wins over out of state champions and beat lbp, who was ranked by some as #4 in country, no one expected grsant to win…

just tired of obvious dls bias, i resoect them for sure but i keep my mind open

it is too bad cif got rid of nor cal…have the loser go to div 1a game

I won’t go back to those picks again, but respect yours and anyone else’s opinion. Thanks for the comments.

Grant lost to Rocklin 24-14 not 24-0. But the score was 24-0 at one point.
