Preseason All-San Gabriel Valley

Two of the top QBs in the San Gabriel Valley area of the CIF Southern Section are Warren Bryan from Damien of La Verne and Ernesto Camacho from Arroyo of El Monte. Photos: &

Dual-threat quarterbacks weren’t hard to choose from in this region because with the multi-purpose category we simply picked all of them. From a team-leading standpoint, both Bishop Amat (La Puente) and Cathedral (Los Angeles) lead with three players selected. Where to put Cathedral in these preseason all-area teams from the CIF Southern Section is a problem, but we put the Phantoms in with where a majority of schools in their league would be.

Note: These preseason all-section teams will be done in the same 30-player format as the annual Cal-Hi Sports All-State Football Teams. They are based on a combination of what the players did last season and college recruiting. Not every all-section team will have writeups of every player. Some will have an intro, then lists.

Before getting into all of the picks for this group of players, we have to say right at the beginning that a preseason team for the Whittier Daily News, San Gabriel Valley Tribune and Pasadena Star-News already has been done by Aram Tolegian of the San Gabriel Valley Tribune.

Did we look at it? Of course, and we wouldn’t pretend to know more about these players than a longtime local prep writer. But there actually are quite a few differences in coverage area. For our preseason team, we not only looked at players from schools that are covered by those newspapers, but also have Cathedral of Los Angeles included plus there are schools covered by the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin that we put into this group but don’t consider Inland Empire. Another difference is that the Whittier Daily News covers a few schools that are in Orange County that we consider Orange County for these preseason teams.
