This is the first group of players who have been placed on our board to be considered for the 37th annual Cal-Hi Sports All-State Football Teams. These are players from the CIF Central Coast Section, CIF North Coast Section, CIF Northern Section, CIF Sac-Joaquin Section plus San Francisco & Oakland. We welcome additional nominees from parents, coaches and fans.

Note: Cal-Hi Sports All-State Football content that will be for Gold Club members include second, final list of nominees plus second team, third team overall and All-State Underclass. The free posts will be first team overall and first team small schools and medium schools. If you want to check out all of our rankings content, all of our all-state content and state record updates, you can now check it out for just $9.99 to cover a three-month subscription. For info, CLICK HERE.

This post represents the first step toward selection of the annual Cal-Hi Sports All-State Football Teams and it is for us to present lists of nominees that have been put up on our virtual board.

This first list is for the the CIF sections in Northern California. The next one will be for the CIF Central Section plus San Diego and L.A. City. The final one will cover the massive CIF Southern Section.

By no means are these meant to be all-inclusive lists of every possible all-state player in California and we will miss listing some top juniors and sophomores on purpose because this isn’t a recruiting list. We encourage and welcome input from all users of our site and will be releasing a second, even more complete, updated list of nominees prior to when the teams are actually chosen and released.

Please send any nomination with each athlete’s height, weight, position, year in school, significant statistics. Comparing a player not on the board yet to one who already is can be very important toward eventual selection. Limit each nomination to one page please. Send to: markjtennis@gmail.com or FAX (209) 463-1219 or call (209) 463-9050.

The format we will continue to use is to honor a 30-player overall all-state first team with 30 more on second team. Each first team player is written up. There also are 30 for medium schools (Div. III traditional state rankings division) and 30 for small schools (Div. IV and Div. V traditional state rankings divisions). We often get enough information to include second teams for all divisions as well.

Don’t assume we know all there is to know about a player on the list, either. Send us info to make sure all pertinent information is turned in and placed into our files.

With appreciation to Stockton office assistant Paul Muyskens, here is a list of those currently on our board from the CIF Central Coast, North Coast, San Francisco, Oakland, Northern & Sac-Joaquin sections:

How do you compare them? A small school player might be dominant in a very low division (D-VII) but would fare less well in an even slightly higher division. Do you look at player highlight film at all? I realize that would be VERY time consuming!!

    • Mark Tennis
      Posted January 3, 2016 at 2:16 pm | Permalink

Competition faced is always considered and we admit there are going to be some small school kids listed as nominees because they have big stats but might not be close to being one of the top 10 players for example at a D1 school. We just can’t list everyone and have to draw the line somewhere. We will look at a highlight film to decide between a few players who otherwise are virtually tied. Looking at more than just a handful, however, is indeed impossible and takes too much time. It’s not like we’re ignoring boys and girls basketball that’s going on at the same time and don’t have resources (staff) to watch a bunch of tape.

When is the info due into you, when do lists come out? If a player is on this list sounds like they will b on the next list? So when should submission of a brief summary be done on a kid already on the list to try to present clarity, sway you in the “right” direction? Now I gotta join the Gold Club! Really enjoy what u guys do… Thanks

The various all-state teams will begin to be announced in about two weeks. We have to get out players of the year first, then the second lists of nominees and covering boys and girls basketball at the same time.

5′-9″ Qb from Wood,Vacaville,Marcus Howard has some of the best Qb stats in California for 2015.His explosive offense was ranked #1 in state and was the most potent passing attack in Solano Co HISTORY!He threw for almost 3,500yds and 42td’s,6 more rushing. Will C Wood made it to rd 2 of Sac-Joaquin section playoffs where they were knocked out by Del Oro,who went on to win the title. In a losing effort,Howard passed for 483 yds and almost brought his team back. They lost 59-49,putting up more points than anyone else against Del Oro!He has a very strong and accurate arm and is vey mobile, eyes always downfield as he extends almost every play.A natural athlete,IF he was 6′ or taller he’d go Div 1 for sure.He was also MVP of East-West All Star Classic in Napa a few weeks back.
