Sac-Joaquin Top 5: One-game rushers

Last week on the FOX 40 Final Quarter high school football show, hosts Mark Demsky and Kristina Werner revealed a list of the top five single-game rushing totals by one player in CIF Sac-Joaquin Section history, according to CalHiSports.com. It was inspired after a recent performance by a Vallejo player.

Here is what that countdown revealed:

1. Dallas Bernstine (Bethel, Vallejo) 555 yds
He did it for school that’s now closed during 2001 game vs. Vintage. This total also is still the record for all of Northern California.

2. Tejon Sorrell (Vacaville Christian) 480 yds
He also scored seven TDs during 2002 matchup vs. Kelseyville.

3. Byron Thomas (Vallejo) 467 yds
This game was just two weeks ago. Thomas did it in a 45-42 loss to Fairfield and he’s only a junior.

4. Isaiah Tenette (Highlands) 465 yds
This is also from this season in a game against Mira Loma. Isaiah also nearly set the state record for most rushing yards by a QB.

5. Johnnie Randle (Bear Creek) 460 yds
He did it in 1997 game vs. East Union. Vacaville Christian’s Tejon Sorrell also had a 460-yard game in 2002.

Watch this week’s show Friday at 11 p.m. for all the local highlights, plus the next Top 5 from CalHiSports.com, which will be the top five single-season touchdown catch leaders in Sac-Joaquin Section history, a list that probably will change at the top either Friday or next week. The show will include highlights from all of the biggest games in the region. Thanks to host Jim Crandell and the FOX 40 team for once again letting Cal-Hi Sports be part of this year’s show.
