Here is what that countdown revealed:

1. Lamar Jackson (Franklin, Elk Grove) 6-3, 210, Sr.
Under Armor All-American is big enough to play linebacker in college but has speed to be a big-time strong safety.

2. Ryan Robards (Elk Grove) 5-10, 190, Sr.
Could have been listed for the running backs, but going with him on defense. Had amazing game on both sides of ball last week vs. Grant.

3. Jamarri Jackson (Christian Brothers) 5-10, 165, Jr.
Regarded as one of the state’s top cover corner prospects among juniors.

4. Hunter Lunsford (Cosumnes Oaks) 6-1, 190, Sr.
Getting some D1 offers and has interest from Ivy League colleges.

5. Matt Torres (Folsom) 6-1, 175, Sr.
Tackle machine for Bulldogs had 23 against Clayton Valley plus 13 with interception and fumble recovery two weeks ago in shutout of Del Oro.

Watch this week’s show Friday at 11 p.m. for all the local highlights, plus the next Top 5 from CalHiSports.com, which because of the NBA season starting up will be a list of the top five grid-hoopers in CIF Sac-Joaquin Section history. The show will include highlights from all of the biggest games in the region. Thanks to Jim and the FOX 40 team for once again letting Cal-Hi Sports be part of this year’s show.
