Le Boulanger South Bay/Peninsula
Offensive Player of the Week

Zach Silva (Pioneer, San Jose) Sr.
After losing their opener to West Catholic Athletic League powerhouse Valley Christian of San Jose, Silva and the Mustangs have been hitting their stride. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound dual-threat quarterback shined last week in a 55-28 Mount Hamilton League opening win over cross-town Piedmont Hills. Silva had his second-straight very solid game of the year to help his team improve to 3-1 this season. Besides going 13-of-18 for 254 yards and four TDs, he had a fifth score on a 22-yard run. Two weeks ago in a 40-29 upset of Pacifica Terra Nova, he accounted for all six of his team’s touchdowns, completing 19-of-22 passes for 210 yards and five TDs, and hitting pay dirt an a 7-yard run.

Le Boulanger South Bay/Peninsula
Defensive Player of the Week

Charlie Roth (Menlo School, Atherton) Jr.
The Knights’ 6-foot-1, 210-pound junior was outstanding on both sides of the ball in a 28-7 victory over Soquel, and could be a multi-purpose winner if we had that category for this honor like we do in some statewide awards. Even without being the key to Menlo’s offense, his nine tackles (eight solo) with three for losses was pretty impressive itself in earning this award. Add a career-high 123 yards on 19 carries with two TDs and you have a superb all-around effort. Roth didn’t have any sacks in the Soquel game but the linebacker/defensive end has 7.5 this season.

Le Boulanger South Bay/Peninsula
Special Teams Player of the Week

Ben Roach (Los Altos) Jr.
In a game of big plays Roach had two of the biggest in a high-scoring 61-12 win over San Jose Lynbrook. Three different Eagles had two or more touchdowns and Roach had three. He only touched the ball for two rushes but one of them went 55 yards for a score. Roach also returned both the opening and another kickoff 80 yards for touchdowns, which is why he was selected for special teams this week. Ben’s teammate, Max Higareda, could have won a multi-purpose award as well. The sophomore registered four scores on a pair of 61-yard dashes to paydirt, a 28-yard TD run and a 15-yard pass reception.
