New S.F. Bay Area Volleyball Top 10

For the first time since we started the Bay Area rankings this season, there were no changes this week. In fact, with the exception of St. Francis losing to Mitty, none of the other top teams faced a ranked opponent in league action and there were no upsets.

Note: This week’s rankings do not include any Tuesday matches played this week and are through games played on Oct. 26. Also, for this week’s new State Top 20 in girls volleyball, CLICK HERE.

1. (1) Valley Christian (San Jose) 24-5
The Warrior girls followed up their big win over Archbishop Mitty two weeks ago with a 3-0 West Catholic Athletic League victory over crosstown visiting Presentation, and then a 3-1 non-league victory over visiting Menlo-Atherton of Atherton.

2. (2) Archbishop Mitty (San Jose) 27-4
The Monarchs finish up league action and then head to the Santa Barbara TOC this coming weekend. They beat both St. Francis and Sacred Heart Cathedral last week.

3. (3) Redwood (Larkspur) 36-3
A Tuesday night showdown with visiting state bubble team and Bay Area No. 6 Ross Branson did not count for this week’s rankings and will be a quality test for Redwood.

4. (4) Menlo (Atherton) 23-5
The Lady Knights followed up a solid showing at the Stockton Classic that included a victory over Bishop O’Dowd with two 3-0 wins over Palo Alto Castilleja and Woodside Priory of Portola Valley.

5. (5) Sacred Heart Cathedral (San Francisco) 21-6
The Irish girls had little problems with Belmont Notre Dame in a 3-1 WCAL victory but then they fell 3-1 to Mitty. In this group, that will not be a punishment.

6. (6) Branson (Ross) 25-6
The Bulls were busier than any other Bay Area-ranked team last week, and they didn’t disappoint, after going 8-0. Branson went 12-0 in six matches to capture a Walnut Creek Northgate Tournament Gold Division that included some of the NCS perennial powers.

7. (7) St. Francis (Mountain View) 14-8
Last week started with a 3-0 loss to Mitty and ended with a 3-0 win over Belmont Notre Dame. At this stage, a loss to Mitty doesn’t drop the Lancers in this group

8. (8) Bishop O’Dowd (Oakland) 18-8
After their decent showing at the Stockton Classic two weeks ago, the Dragons continued to dominate the West Alameda County-Foothill League with 3-0 wins over visiting Hayward Tennyson and Piedmont.

9. (9) Homestead (Cupertino) 13-7
The Mustangs hold fast with two easy 3-0 wins last week in De Anza League action over Mountain View and Monta Vista Cupertino.

10. (10) Palo Alto 17-5
Paly rebounded from the loss two weeks ago to Homestead by winning its two matches last week, a non-league win over San Francisco St. Ignatius, and a De Anza League win over Mountain View.
