Steven Anderson (Westminster)
Having a hand in all eight of the Lions’ touchdowns in a 56-30 win over Segerstrom of Santa Ana in Golden West League play, Anderson rushed for 105 yards and two touchdowns while completing nine of his 14 pass attempts for 260 yards and six touchdowns.

Dominic Barnes (Pioneer, San Jose)
The Mustangs’ senior running back rushed for 179 yards and three touchdowns, caught a 50-yard TD pass and had an interception on defense in a 55-34 victory over crosstown Piedmont Hills.

Nick Bernardo & Chidobe Awuzie (Oak Grove, San Jose)
You don’t have to look past this versatile senior duo to see why the Eagles are 9-0 and No. 11 in the Cal-Hi Sports’ NorCal D1 CIF Bowl Rankings. Last week in a 49-20 win over Morgan Hill Sobrato, they got it done on both sides of the ball. Bernardo rushed for 201 yards and three touchdowns. He also had 11 tackles and recovered two fumbles. Awuzie rushed for 203 yards and three scores, made seven tackles on defense, plus he recorded an interception, blocked field goal, and a forced fumble.

Trevor Bearden (Live Oak, Morgan Hill)
The Acorns’ junior makes another appearance after becoming the second running back to rush for over 400 yards in a game in the Central Coast Section this season. In a 38-27 win over San Jose Branham, the 6-foot-1, 205 pound running back rushed for 435 yards on 36 carries with four scores. Once verified, the single game total will make the list for Most Yards (Game) in the Cal-Hi Sports State Record Book.

Cameron Birse (San Ramon Valley, Danville)
The Wolves are making a late season run and snagged a share of the East Bay Athletic League title and the No. 4 seed in the North Coast Section playoffs, largely in part to Birse. In a 32-28 victory over crosstown arch rival Monte Vista, the 6-foot-3, 220-pound senior that got some nice looks at the Nike Elite 11 Camp rallied his team from an 18-point deficit and finished with 315 yards passing and four touchdowns.

Deven Boston (Buena Park)
After a few quiet weeks, this talented junior finished the regular season with a huge performance against Fullerton as he carried the ball 31 times for 328 yards and five touchdowns in a 40-17 win for the Coyotes.

Peter Bouret (Menlo School, Atherton)
Peter picked a peck of touchdowns in a 56-14 thrashing of Daly City Jefferson. First, he took the game’s opening kickoff 86 yards for his first score, then he returned another kickoff 99 yards to pay dirt in the second quarter, and finally he caught a 21-yard TD pass for a third touchdown.

Austin Caldron (Brookside Christian, Stockton)
In a 72-0 victory over a Millennium of Tracy squad that beat Brookside one year ago, Caldron was scalding hot with 15 completions in 23 throws for 364 yards and six touchdowns. With the win, Brookside wrapped up a league title.

Brennan Cassone (Malibu)
Not only did Cassone return a punt 75 yards for a score but he also had 12 catches for 207 yards and a touchdown in a 50-41 shootout win over Santa Clara of Oxnard.

Austin Connolly (Justin-Siena, Napa)
Connolly rolled and so did the Braves, right into the NCS D4 top seed slot, after he led a ground attack that ran up 514 yards in a 54-14 crushing of host Larkspur Redwood. The senior running back had 213 yards and two touchdowns before coach Rich Cotruvo cleared the bench.

Kamari Cotton-Moya (Ridgeview, Bakersfield)
The pickings were good for Cotton-Moya as he led Ridgeview past Golden Valley of Bakersfield 48-21. He set a school record by rushing for 297 yards on 20 carries and scored three touchdowns. He also passed for 104 yards.

Corbin Covey (Camarillo)
According to the Ventura County Star, his 14 receptions for 141 yards in a 41-7 win over Rio Mesa had him set the county record for receptions in a regular season. His 124 receptions ended up two better than Richard Mullaney, who had 122 receptions back in 2010. We can do better than the county record, though. Mullaney’s total, as well as the one accomplished last season by Logan Smith from Vista del Lago of Folsom (also 122 catches), was the state record.

Malcolm Davis (Palo Alto)
He returned a kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown and then took an interception 42 yards for a score in a 56-28 win over Mountain View. Davis and the Vikings (7-2) are surging in recent weeks and could be a force if they get into the CCS Open Division playoffs. And if they end up in Division I instead, watch out for Paly to get into the next CIF NorCal D2 bowl game rankings.

Austin DeFreitas (Woodbridge, Irvine)
Making sure the Warriors wouldn’t end the regular season with two losses in a row, he carried 30 times and gained 311 yards while scoring four touchdowns in a 35-7 road win over Irvine.

Kyle Dozier & Jonathan Walters (Saratoga)
Dozier had a doozy of a night in a 44-37 mild upset of league rival Milpitas, after the senior wide receiver had a hand in all six Falcons’ touchdowns. First, he returned a punt 68 yards to paydirt, then he had TD catches of 12 and 16 yards, next he threw a 54-yard TD pass off a reverse, and then he finished with two scoring catches, including the game-winner from Walters, the CCS leading reported passer. Walters also finished 32 of 57 for 447 yards and four touchdowns and moved his season total to more than 3,000. With still one game left in the regular season, Walters probably can’t reach the CCS record of 3,599 yards set in 1989 by Ryan Hancock of Cupertino Monta Vista, but has a good chance to move into second-place.

Jackson Duda (Salinas)
Duda was the dude after scoring three TDs in three different ways, all in the span of less than four minutes in the second quarter of a 61-23 victory over crosstown North Salinas. Duda scored on an 80-yard kickoff return, a 36-yard interception return and a 67-yard punt return.

Adam Espinosa (Oxnard)
With his team needing a win to make the postseason, he had a huge night rushing as he ran for 296 yards on 48 carries while scoring three touchdowns in the Yellowjackets’ 36-35 overtime win against Pacifica of Oxnard.

Justin Ewing (Capuchino, San Bruno)
After a 297-yard, three-touchdown performance on 30 carries, in a 45-13 win over Belmont Carlmont, the Mustangs’ senior running back is edging up two lists in the Cal-Hi Sports State Record Book. His 2,520 yards and 321 carries so far this regular season are already well placed on each of their respective lists. He’s also only 278 yards behind the 2,798-yard total of the CCS all-time leader for rushing yards in a season. That was accomplished by Onan Reyes of the 1997 Burlingame team. According to the record book, the 321 carries is already the most ever in one season in the CCS.

Romero Flores (Aquinas, San Bernardino)
He has been carrying the ball a ton the last month of the season and in the Saints’ regular season finale it was no different. Flores carried 31 times for 253 yards and three touchdowns in a 47-36 loss to Linfield Christian of Temecula.

Denzel Foster (JW North, Riverside)
With the Huskies looking to get him the ball as much as possible during their 28-7 win over Arlington of Riverside, Foster carried 24 times for 212 yards and two touchdowns, caught four passes for 50 yards and returned four punts for 74 yards with a long return of 40 yards.

Spencer George (Foothills Christian, El Cajon)
In a 66-44 loss to Mountain Empire, George accounted for more than 400 yards of total offense. A senior quarterback, he had 33 carries for 222 yards and completed 15 of 26 passes for 186 yards and two touchdowns.

Zach Green (St. Bonaventure, Ventura)
With the Seraphs trailing big, he was a big part in their rallying back to defeat Oaks Christian 30-21 in the Marmonte League title game. Green rushed for 244 yards and five touchdowns, including two in the game’s final four minutes.

Sty Hairston (Banning)
He may have only gained the second highest total of rushing yards in the game, behind Jacob Taylor from Rim of the World, but his 361 yards and seven touchdowns on 30 carries came in a winning effort as the Broncos picked up the 49-41 win.

Fabiano Hale (Soquel)
After setting the school’s single season rushing and TD records last week, Hale added more weight to the scale this week after rushing for 259 yards and five TDs in a 47-0 rout of Santa Cruz Harbor.

Matt Jimison (Vista del Lago, Folsom)
Having a hand in all six of his team’s touchdowns, Jimison tossed five touchdown passes and rushed for a score as the Eagles defeated Union Mine of El Dorado 42-21.

Josiah Johnson & Damon Wheeler (Sacramento)
Leading the Dragons to a 58-21 win over McClatchy in the Bell Game, Johnson completed 22 of his 35 pass attempts for 388 yards and six touchdowns while also running for 84 yards and a score. Wheeler caught seven passes for 162 yards and three touchdowns.

Lee Jones (Sierra Vista, Baldwin Park)
With the Dons only completing one pass for 17 yards, it was their running game that led the way as Jones rushed for 265 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries in a 37-6 win over Azusa.

Anthony Lawrence (Grossmont, El Cajon)
Letting the ball fly in their regular season finale, Lawrence completed 31 of his 41 pass attempts for 377 yards and six touchdowns as the Foothillers defeated West Hills of Santee 55-17. Lawrence, a junior, is the top passer in the CIF San Diego Section this season.

Jamal Lockett (Pittsburg)
The Pirates’ senior had over 200 yards rushing in the first half and finished with 284 yards and three TDs in a 42-14 win over neighboring rival Antioch in the Big Little Game.

Forrest Lohman (Saddleback Valley Christian, San Juan Capistrano)
For the third time this season, he rushed for five touchdowns in a game as he carried the ball 27 times for a season-high 379 yards in a 54-37 win over Fairmont Prep of Anaheim.

Sean Lydster (Gunn, Palo Alto)
The defense actually won the 28-27 game with Cupertino Monta Vista when it stopped a 2-point conversion but Lydster provided the offense. The junior running back rushed for 236 yards on 32 carries with four TDs, including the one that broke a 21-21 tie.

Trevor Maes (Foothill, Pleasanton)
The Falcons’ senior intercepted a pass and returned it 82 yards for a touchdown and he also blocked two field goals but his team lost 28-23 to crosstown arch rival Amador Valley for the fist time since 2004 and only the second time since 1994.

Marcus McMaryion (Dinuba)
For the second time this season, this junior signal caller passed for six touchdowns as he completed 11 of his 14 pass attempts for 235 yards in a 57-21 win for the Emperors over Exeter.

Tucker Mendonca (Mt. Whitney, Visalia)
The senior quarterback had the best passing game of his career by passing for 416 yards (2nd best in school history), but the big news in Mt. Whitney’s 44-17 win over Redwood of Visalia in annual Cowhide rivalry game is that he completed a perfect 23 of 23 passes to set two new state records. Mendonca’s 23 for 23 broke the previous best of 16 for 16 set in 2003 by Nathan Ford of Palo Alto. He also completed his last six passes in the previous game for 29 straight completions and that breaks the previous record of 26 straight set in two games in 1987 by Perry Klein from Palisades of Pacific Palisades. Receivers not dropping a single pass in so many throws certainly make these team accomplishments. Mendonca’s top target against Redwood was Darius Armstead, who had 13 grabs for 279 yards. Also catching multiple balls were Ronnie Holley and Chris Angulo.

Sam Metcalf (Farmersville)
Just a sophomore, Metcalf has led the team to another East Sierra League championship after a 55-28 win over Orosi. He passed for 382 yards and five touchdowns playing in his fifth consecutive game of the season. Teammate wide receiver Cody Hall had nine receptions for 159 yards and three touchdowns and now has 40 touchdowns in his career, 2nd most in Central Section history.

Delshawn Mitchell (Wilcox, Santa Clara)
This talented junior running back/defensive back rushed for five touchdowns and also had an interception he returned 30 yards in a 40-22 win at Cupertino Homestead.

Brandon Olivares (Palma, Salinas)
The Chieftains’ junior rushed for 261 yards and four TDs as Palma’s offense exploded in a 73-34 win over visiting Gilroy.

Cedrick Phillips (McNair, Stockton)
In a loss to powerful St. Mary’s of Stockton, Phillips moved the chains for the Eagles with 349 passing yards. He had two TD passes, one TD run and was 29 of 51 in passing.

Taylor Poyadue (Alhambra, Martinez)
The Bulldogs’ senior tailback rushed for 290 yards and two TDs but it wasn’t enough in a 48-27 loss to Orinda Miramonte.

Hunter Remington (Mission Viejo)
Not only did Remington intercept Conner Manning three times but he also returned one of them 31 yards for a touchdown as the unbeaten Diablos defeated El Toro 49-7 to capture the South Coast League championship.

Jerry Saldivar (Los Amigos, Fountain Valley)
Making sure his senior night was one to remember, he rushed for 272 yards and three touchdowns on 31 carries during a 48-12 win over La Quinta of Westminster.

Ryan Severson (Valley Christian, San Jose)
The leading rusher in the West Catholic Athletic League ran for 261 yards and two touchdowns but his team was on the short end in a 38-35 setback to state-ranked San Jose Bellarmine.

Justice Shelton-Mosley (Capital Christian, Sacramento)
He brought down the hammer on Orinda Lindhurst’s hopes of winning as he scored six touchdowns in a 62-0 win for the Cougars. Carrying the ball seven times, he rushed for 127 yards and three touchdowns while he returned two punts for scores and returned an interception for six more points.

Keenan Smith (Fremont, Sunnyvale)
The 5-foot-11, 200-pound junior returned the opening kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown, returned a punt 65 yards for another score, and added two rushing TDs on only three carries to lead the Firebirds to a rout of Los Altos.

Jacob Taylor (Rim of the World, Lake Arrowhead)
No stranger to being listed here, this talented back rushed for 389 yards and five scores on 38 carries but it wasn’t enough to prevent a 49-41 loss to Banning and fellow state stat star Sty Hairston.

James Toland (Shadow Hills, Indio)
Getting over 2,500 rushing yards for the regular season, Toland carried 34 times for 298 yards and three scores in a 34-7 win over Desert Hot Springs. For the regular season, he finished with 2,541 rushing yards and 39 touchdowns.

Aaren Vaughns (Charter Oak, Covina)
More than doing his share to make sure the Chargers finished the regular season undefeated in Sierra League play, Vaughns rushed 26 times for 273 yards and five touchdowns in a 38-14 road win over Damien of La Verne.

Ari Wargon (Scotts Valley)
Wargon was on the tune of five touchdowns in a 54-17 thrashing of visiting Santa Cruz. He had three rushing, one receiving and a 94-yard kickoff return to open the game.

Howard Wikle (Valley Christian, Dublin)
No, he has nothing to do with Wikipedia, but the Valley Christian faithful have Wikle to thank for the Vikings snagging the No. 2 seed in the NCS Division IV playoffs. In a 41-33 win over defending D4 champion Richmond Salesian, the senior running back rushed 34 times for 370 yards and five big touchdowns, including runs of 63 and 65 yards.

Peyton Wilfey (Casa Roble, Orangevale)
It came during a 40-35 loss to Oakmont of Roseville, but Wilfey did all he could as he completed 20 of his 25 pass attempts for 274 yards and three touchdowns while also carrying the ball 15 times for 105 yards.

Demetrius Williams (Lincoln, San Francisco)
With the Mustangs making a statement as to which is this year’s top team in the CIF San Francisco Section, it was this senior slotback and defensive back that controlled the entire pasture in a 42-14 win over defending section champ Mission. On offense, Williams rushed 23 times for 154 yards and three touchdowns. Defensively, he had an interception and a 22-yard return of a fumble for a fourth score.

Aaron Zwahlen (Downey, Modesto)
It wasn’t in quite as high scoring a game as you would expect, but Zwahlen did complete 23 of his 31 pass attempts for 454 yards and three touchdowns in a 24-20 win over Beyer of Modesto.

COACHING

Mike Walsh (San Pedro) Wins 200th Game
By virtue of the Pirates’ 45-7 victory over Washington of Los Angeles last week, Walsh became the fifth coach in L.A. City Section history with 200 career wins. Heading into the Pirates’ L.A. City Section Division I playoff opener against 6-4 Fairfax of Los Angeles, Walsh is a reported 200-63-2 since 1991. On the section’s all-time list for reported wins, Walsh joins the 200-win club led by Gene Vollnogle (289), the SoCal coaching icon at Wilmington Banning and Carson who passed away earlier this fall, Jeff Engilman (243), a fiery, no-nonsense coach who made L.A. Manual Arts and Sylmar powers before retiring at Arleta following the 2010 season, Paul Knox (240), who has led L.A. Dorsey to the post-season every year he’s been head coach dating back to 1985, and the legendary Jim Blewett (225), who began his coaching career at Fresno High in the Central Section in 1921 before becoming a well-respected coach at L.A. Manual Arts. Walsh has won five L.A. City Section titles at San Pedro, the first one coming at the 3A level in 1992 and the latest in 2008 when the Pilots and league rival Narbonne were co-city champions.

Clovis East ran into the Johnsons
Three different players with the same last name all scored for Central of Fresno in a 49-0 win last week against Clovis East. Tramell Johnson scored on a 50-yard interception, Deandre Johnson scored on a 50-yard interception and Johnny Johnson scored on a 55-yard punt return. All of the Johnsons are not related. According to Central Section historian Bob Barnett, this was the first time in section history that three players with the same last name scored a touchdown in a game. Junior running back Trelani Johnson didn’t score, but did rush for 46 yards on eight carries.
